Now that my grey Electrolux Epic 6500SR is working; but now a few issues have occured:

  • SideKick & PN run intermittent
  • SideKick runs hot (only with the grey Epic 6500SR)
  • Cord won't rewind

For the PN & SideKick  problem, is it repairable or do I need a new hose?  It seems to run when the handle does NOT move; but when the hose handle swivels to a certain angle, the PN and/or SideKick stops & then starts again.

The grey SideKick also gives shock, but only when I use it with the grey Epic; but the PN does NOT do that at all.

Can the cordwinder be taken apart for repair or do I need to buy the whole cord reel?

I haven't had those problems with the blue/beige Epic 6500SR; did anything change when the grey Epic 6500SR (model C102) came out in terms of reliability, durability & quality?

The wand might have a problem.

The wand on the hose has a loose connection, dissasemble the wand and see if the contacts are bent broken,or dirty.Remove screws and the two pieces separate off the hose. The wand is replacable if you cant fix it.

Now the Epic 6500 shuts off when I put the tool against any surface (ex: dusting)  What could the problem be?

  • Clogged automatic control line tubes?
  • Automatic control need replaced?
  • Faulty electronic display?

I had they same grey 6500SR for many years that I bought from a Kirby dealer from his trade ins. I think I paid less the $100 for the both a 6500 and matching 3500SR upright, both in excellent cosmetic condition. The upright was mechanically perfect but the canister was another story. I don't know what the previous owner did to it but the motor needed to be completely rebuilt. It wasn't that old at the time, maybe 7-8 years old but it had problems. Anyway, it wasn't that costly at the time to rebuild the motor and after it was rebuilt it ran perfectly for years afterwards.

Have you checked the connections for the hose at both the machine and wand end? The bag door has 4 small screws in it and that will allow you to see it there is a problem with the connection at the machine end. The hose handle should come apart easily too, the metal contacts in the handle press against a contact on the hose and may be damaged or dirty.

As for your cord winder, if it's not working just buy a new one. Don't try and fix it, the metal coil inside is very sharp and very dangerous. I can tell you this from experience, it's not worth going near it.

I had a similar problem, as soon as the hose was attached it shut off. It was the automatic control valve. They sell them on Ebay if you know how to put them in, other wise its a 40 or 50 dollar fix from Aerus.....I had Aerus fix mine, at the time I didn't know what was wrong with it.....
