The red (or tan) brushes are for scrubbing, waxing & polishing hard floors; DO NOT use the red brushes for shampooing rugs/carpets.  U must use only the soft black bristle brushes for shampooing carpets/rugs.

Thanks for the responses...  I went ahead and got the Koblenz...  I ordered of from Wal-mart online and it was 139... basic model with plastic motor  housing instead of chrome and no T shaped handle, but it definitely does the job.

I have a Hoover Floormate and 2 Hoover Spinscrub steam vacs already, but their cleaning performance leaves a lot to be desired with really dirty situations...  I wanted a true scrubber...  on carpet, I will always follow with the steam vac because the Koblenz does leave a lot of water in the carpet and I don't want re-soiling issues so rinsing with the steam vac is a good thing.  I know a lot of people scrub with their Kirbys first, but I don't like having to set up a Kirby shampooer and this will fill the gap nicely.  I used it in my kitchen and the scrub water was just filthy and I regularly use the Floormate and Haan steamer so I was really shocked at what was left behind.  I have some relatives who have really dirty vinyl flooring and I tried the Floormate on it last week and it didn't even make a dent...  I can't wait to try the Koblenz.

I did think about the Electrolux one, but I couldn't find any for sale locally and they are so huge and bulky to store.  I do, however, like the idea of nap lifters.  I also considered the Oreck Orbiter, but there were none for sale when I was looking... now there's one on C/L for 100 bucks... but I wanted something with a tank built in and I like having 2 small brushes rather than 1 big one.  

I wanted the metal gears in the Koblenz rather than the plastic gears in the Hoover so that is what really sealed the deal for me.

Used the Koblenz to do under the 'fridge today and it did a pretty respectable job...  it didn't get extremely close the the edges, but I didn't expect it to... that's that a toothbrush and a magic eraser are for :o)

That yellow stuff around the edges is some kind of adhesive that has been there since I moved in...  I think it is glue from when they put the tile down or something...  nothing has ever gotten  it up, but I wonder if the Haan Steamer might soften it somehow if I leave it in one place for an hour and then scrub with a brillo pad :o)
