Does anyone have a Kingston or Germatron in their collection. The cleaner was also Royal, Saniway and ElectroHygiene I think. I had been to the factory in Bronson , Michigan and think it is Douglas now. When I was there I was about 9 or 10. The Factory said Home of Kingston.

I have a Kingston Germatron with the optional cord winder. They look like gold colored Saniways. Mine sits on an optional dolly (does not have built in wheels) with the cord winder underneath.

Germatron with cordreel

When my Dad sold Kingston and Germatron he fiddle with the cleaners. He put an Electrolux cordreel on the backside of a Kingston. He also had two motors in the cleaner. Another cleaner he was making out of two square dish pans. One day the man that Dad referred to as a friend from the factory saw what Dad was doing and had done. It wasn't six months later that a cordreel came out on Kingston and a cleaner looking like what Dad was working on. The line it came out on was the Rambler line sold in Western Auto and Firestone stores.
One thing I remember about the two motor Kingston was when you started it ,it would spin. Dad did get it fixed. He had to get the torque of the motors out but I never learned what he did. He said no more secrets were being told to anyone. Me, I was only 11 at the time and wouldn't know everything he understood. His factory job was aviation engines experimental.

Pontiac...

Was really getting into racing at this time, Junior Johnson drove a 56 Pontiac and won some races, but in 57, the 347 came out with 3 two barrel carbs, Cotton Owens ran away with the Daytona beach and road course race, in 57-thru early 63 Pontiac was the car to beat, winning the Nascar championship in 62 and 63,Ford came back in 63 and Plymouth and Dodge in 64, they were tired of getting outrun by Fireball Roberts, Joe Weatherly, Jack Smith and Junior Johnson driving pontiacs.

Kingston Germatron

My Aunt had a Kingston canister vacuum. I can't vouch for it being a Germatron as I haven't seen it in more than 40 years. I do have a Kingston owner's manual for a model 6640. Also I recently purchased a Kingston model 6623 tank type cleaner. In the 1950's when Kingston vacuum cleaners were made , their "Kingston" nameplate was made on an ornate heavy gold leaf foil stamping, which my dads's printing company ,Richard M. Krause Inc. of NYC supplied. Although they primarily printed labels and boxes for cosmetics , they also did work for other industries. For example , the Westclox and Sunbeam alarm clock faces were Krause products. My Dad was the president and CEO of the firm , and a bachelor at the time who lived in an apartment. So , the Kingston company gave my Uncle , Frank Rodgers , vice president of the firm one of the Kingston 6640's as a gift for his wife, my Aunt Muriel. I remember the body of that vacuum being blue , not gold , but not the same shade as the Kingston 6623 . She passed away in 2002 , and I didn't learn of it until months later. Don't know if she still had that vacuum as I last saw them in 1975.I had been looking for a Kingston vacuum for years, and finally found the 6623 on E-Bay. When it arrived , the first thing I looked at was the label, which was as nice as I remember it. Sadly , I don't have any examples in my Dad's sample books that I've saved. I do hope to post some photos in a few days. There's a nice article on the Kingston Germatron by Tom Gasko, which I'm listing the link for

Re Kingston...

One of my most sought after elusive machines...I would also LOVE to get a swivel top Kingston as well as one of the tanks with wheels on it, I have a earlier tank before the fancy label, but I do have a Saniway which also has the same label just a different name...Wonderful machines , in my opinion one of the very best built vacuums ever made, real top notch quality.
