Please let me know if I am correct that Electrolux redesigned its crevice tool with the bronze Model G.

Also, I have noticed that there seems to be some disagreement on the color of the last Electrolux Model G. The reason I think 'bronze' is more accurate than 'tan' is that the former is metallic rather than a standard color (like the tan Model L marketed around the same time).

The following link supports my choice to use 'bronze' for the hue of the last Model G. Technically, 'light bronze' is the hue according to the color gallery (click on it to get a larger image).

Electrolux called it 'tan' - both the models L and G were painted the same color. Over time, the colors change. Very few Automatic E's are still the same color today as they were the day they were delivered.
Electrolux used to make their touch up spray paint available to their branch offices - I have two cans of "tan" which states it's for the models L and G as well as the CB (which came out with the tan models L and G as well).

Hey Paul

Yes the Tan G (1967)was when the new style crevice tool was introduced in the US. However the same style had previously been used in Canada since the introduction of the 54/55/57 line in 1953 and in England with the introduction of the 62 in 1957. There was even a brush head made for these crevice tools in England (also sold as an optional accessory in Canada)

I too have always heard it referred to as the "tan G" although I myself have sometimes referred to the color as bronze. It's funny, the tan G and L are the same color but the L looks a bit lighter somehow.

Why did the L have white body & either aqua or tan trim? I thought its supposed to be aqua or tan body & white trim like the more deluxe G.

The white bodied L had turquoise trim. It was the same color they were painting the Hospital model G bodies. The trim color was designed to compliment the Turquoise model G.

The tan colored L with dark tan trim was designed to compliment the tan model G - they used the same paint.

Thanks for the replies!

Replies #1, #5 (Tom): Thanks for the clarification. I have only seen the tan Model Ls in photos and videos, so now I am anxious to see/obtain one. Any idea if the touch-up paints for Electrolux cleaners are still available (besides Ebay)? I will take for granted that the B8 of the same era was painted the same tan color, too. I would also like clarification on the 'white' model Ls and Hospital Gs. I always thought they were cream/off-white. Would you consider it a snow-colored white or cream-colored white? Just curious. Interesting to know that color-shifting has occurred over the years. That would explain why I have seen so many "seafoam green" Model Es/AEs instead of blue.

Reply #2 (Doug): I appreciate your info. In looking at my USA Model R, though, the picture (from a side view--not top) seems to portray the redesigned version, so I wonder if Electrolux made two versions for awhile (considering the teal-colored older version). Also, do you happen to know if there have only been the three versions of the crevice tool (from the Model E through aqua G; tan G through Silverado; and Diamond J to present)?

Reply #3 (Charles): I appreciate your input. For some reason I had thought that the official color (according to a Aerus poster I'd seen at some point) was 'bronze'. Ok, I'll acquiesce and change my verbiage to 'tan'!

Reply #4 (Erik): For some reason Aerus's information never acknowledges the white Model Ls and instead lists the Model Rs as being manufactured from '60-'66. I believe the consensus in Vacuumland is that the white Model Ls with teal trim were manufactured from '63-'66, followed by the tan, and that the Model Rs were discontinued in '63. Both machines were economy models.

Yes, the B8 of that period was the same color, and the rug washer suction-powered attachment was two-tone off-white and tan.

Both of the Hospital Gs bodies were off-white, one with dark turquoise and white trim and one with dark tan and white trim.

Thanks once again for the information, Charles. I forgot about the rug washer! Ones with those colors--not to mention the B8s--must be quite rare. At least I haven't seen any on Ebay. Interestingly, the tan Model Gs do pop up rather frequently.

Would love to get at least one version of a Hospital G sometime. I'm guessing that they didn't sell the greatest, though, or Electrolux would have continued making newer hospital versions.

Color of Model L

The first Model L came out April 1963. My father sold the first one in Indiana and they were White and seen in the 30 year anniversary book about Old Greenwich plant.

John,

Thanks for the information. So does that mean that the Model R was manufactured from 1959 to 1963?

Also, is the 30th anniversary book still available?
