Well my Miele S6 Ecoline isn't running hot but following pick up of fine saw dust the other day I discovered the Miele's outer body caked in dust. Went into the bag area and found that the Active Air clean filter (about 3 months old) had a little dust on the sides. Have now fully cleaned it out - but I won't be attempting to suck up woodwork dust again with the Miele - lesson learnt there!

I have a theory about the exhaust coming out of new vacuum cleaners: it is possible that what you are seeing are fine particles that have been deposited during manufacture. During the first few weeks after buying my Electrolux UltraSilencer Green, I could swear that my hands were being covered with very fine microscopic particles being blown out of the exhaust. The invisible cloud of blown particles disappeared forever after a few uses, and so I am convinced that the vac was spewing out extraneous particles from the motor and the filters that are a byproduct of the manufacturing process. Even my Hoover Tempo upright showed sparking of extraneous dust at the power switch for a few weeks after I bought it. This must have been due to extraneous material left on the switch in the factory because the sparking soon disappeared.
By the way, it seems that Consumer Reports tests showed that the S7 uprights which come with the more expensive Hepa filter have less air-flow than those that use the cheaper exhaust filter. Apparently the cheaper filter does an acceptable job of reducing emissions while allowing air to flow faster thru the cleaner. This might reduce the heat on the exhaust of your Miele! :-) Just some thoughts to think about.... |
