Hi. I've recently moved to Australia and I'm having a lot of trouble finding work.The other day I was wondering though Harvey Norman (kinda like HH Gregg) and, seeing the market for Dysons down here, am appalled. Dysons that they can't give away for $550 in America like the DC41 is going for $950 here! The most popular Dyson, though, is the DC23 (a canister) with the Turbine Head. They go for $1100 new here and I've noticed that I can get factory refurbs for around $250 there. Add another $75 to $100 for shipping, change the plug, sell them for $500 right? Maybe... I was wondering if anyone could look at one and see if the motor will cycle to 240v and also what phase the motor needs to run on 50hz or 60hz. If the voltage is only 110v, then I could still sell them with voltage convertors, if its only 60hz, then I'm shot. I would appreciate any help I could get.

You cannot run a motor designed for 110 volts on a 220 volt outlet. The motor would have to be changed, as well as the plug. I believe that once you convert Australian dollars into American dollars, the price in Australia for a Dyson is approximately the same as a new model in the USA.

Actually, the Australian dollar is typically worth more that the US Dollar. Right now, it's low so the AUD is worth 98.2 cents US, so it's six in one, half dozen in the other. Also, with a voltage converter, I can step 240v down to 110v to run appliances and electronics, like my laptop. The real problem is the phase. I need to know if US Dysons run on 50hz or 60hz, that's my biggest problem.

They run on 60 Hertz in the USA.
