Hello all - Looking for some help. I just picked up a vacuum and have a few questions. It has a "Silver Jubilee Demonstration Bag" on it. I am not able to find where the Hoover made a 475 Silver Jubilee edition. The vacuum works (other than the light) and seems to be all original (even the belt). The belt is dry-rotted, but she seems to be pretty clean other than that. I have the whole set of attachments, but I do not have a manual of any sort. Just curious if anyone can give me some info. I have emailed Hoover, but not sure if they will respond to me or not. Did they sell door-to-door at one point? Also wondering how much something like this is worth. I saw the attachment set went for $100 on ebay recently. I live in Michigan and see that there are a few Michigan members on here. Just looking for some advice on what to do with this thing. I plan on taking pics and posting, but need to clean up the bag before I do that. Please help!!! Any info would be appreciated.

Produced beginning in 1935, the Hoover 475 was one of the first Henry Dreyfuss-designed Hoovers (famous industrial designers). It was also one of the LAST "coffee-can" Hoovers (as collectors refer to them). That nickname describes the motor head shape of being coffee-can-like. When Mr. Dreyfuss designed the Hoover Model 150 the following year, Hoovers changed shaped entirely, now sporting streamlined motor hoods, and acquiring new, modern features not seen on previous models, including this 475.

Here's a picture of mine. [Some of us have noticed that our 475's seem to suffer from a "lazy" front rubber bumper, which sags]

The Jubilee reference is, I think, denoting the British monarchy Jubilee. However, I have never heard of a Jubilee demonstration bag. Yes, these vacuums were demonstrated in homes by salesmen, though it would not be long (post WWII) that home demonstrations would fall out of favor, and Hoover would step up their distribution and dealer network, essentially cutting out the door-to-door practice for the company.

The tool kit you refer to fitted both the Model 450 and 475 (and perhaps others, which I am not sure about). Perhaps other Hoover collectors with this knowledge could chime in at this point. As to value, like other collectible fields, it largely depends upon what collectors are willing to pay, what condition the machine and tools are in, and how much of it is original equipment (bag, etc.)

Anyone else?

a lazy bumper?
I have a 150 waiting for me in North Canton. I'll pick it up this summer. it'll be great to have one at last. They were called' over-designed'. But, they are a stellar machine, indeed.

The 475 is one of my favorites! Here's mine. As for the attachments, I believe the same set was used with the 800 and 825, but with a different hose connector.

I was unable to add pics. It said they were too big so I added them to my Shutterfly website (rockemsockempalmers.shutterfly.co...) and hopefully you can see them. If not, let me know and I will try something different. I just don't know how else to do it.

I hope someone can give me info regarding the bag. It is different than any other that I have seen. Any advice on how or where to sell this vacuum would be great. Please follow this link to see some pics. I do not have any pics of the attachments. I thought I took them too, but I guess not. I will get some this weekend.

So I tried posting pics again, but it won't work. It keeps timing out. I would really like some help with this. It took me a while to get back on here as we had a tragedy that took over a week to deal with. Please visit my shutterfly site above and give me some advice. It would be greatly appreciated. Now I really NEED the money to help pay for some unexpected expenses. Thanks for your help!!

If you upload the PIC to an online place, paste the IMG code in the URL box

If it won't upload to picasa, photobicket etc then its your internet being rubbish I'm afraid
