I'm afraid not

It won't activate the speed/safety switch.  However, the Handi Butler was produced for a very short time with the Heritage 1-HD (until the Turbo Group) was released.  They are rare, but if you found one of these, it would work on your Legend II, since all of the Heritage line used the same speed/safety switch.

Oh well...

Thanks Joe :)
Its the polishing function I like the sound of- use the Kirby to polish itself lol.
I know its availiable (although not really promoted) for the G series/Sentria but is attached to the hose so air powered rather than driven from the motor- dont you love health and safety/lawsuit issues!!!

I have a HB

for my Sentria, and you are right.  It is air powered now.  Unfortunately, it has been reduced to be more of a Dremel tool, rather than the full sized tool it was in the past.  It's amazing how much the Handi Butler changed from the Classic Omega through the Heritage.

Omega Butler (and all previous models) Grinding wheel and knife sharpener, as well as the drill, buffing pads, wire wheel, disc  sander, and lambs wool buffer (fit over disk sander disk for buffing anything from cars to hard wood furniture).

Classic III Butler:  Added jig saw feature and removed the grinder/knife sharpener.  All other features of previous Butlers.

Tradition Butler:  Same as Classic III Butler except that mid run, the jig saw was removed.  Safety issues. All other features retained (except for grinding wheel/knife sharpener).

Heritage Butler:  Drill, buffing wheels, wire wheel, and disc sander, and lambs wool buffing pad.  Discontinued when Turbo Group was released.

Sentria:  Handi Butler reintroduced.  Worked off of air instead of belt driven attachment.  Miniature tools like on Dremel tool.  Didn't last long and I believe it has been discontinued again.

It's rare, and I don't know if it was sold in the UK, but I see Heritage HBs come up once in a great while.  All you would really need is the power transfer unit that connects to the Kirby.  Everything else from the Tradition HB would then work off of that.  I can't make any promises, but if you like, I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if I find one.

I used to have a 500 series power plant on my workbench fitted with a HB and used it exclusively for polishing Kirby and Royal vacuums.  It may have taken longer than it would have with a professional grade buffer, but with patience, I got some pretty good results,  (although, I don't think the Royals took too kindly to being at the mercy of the Kirby:-) ).

Cool!

If it fits the Heritage I/II then it will fit yours like a glove.  Good luck!

That is so awesome!

Hey Seamus,  I'm guessing you won it?  If so congrats!  I remember those from when I sold the Heritage 1-HD.  I forgot that they discontinued the wire wheel with it.   Too bad it was discontinued completely when the Turbo Group was released.

Suppose becuase of liability and safety-the Kirby Handi-Butlers were "dumbed" down to uselessness.and--if someone needed tools they would go to Sears,Lowes,HD and such for REAL tools instead of a Handi-Butler.The Hani-butlers were kinda clever, though.

Joe,

On the "Mark V" Handi-Butlers (for models Classic III, Tradition and Heritage), the attaching lugs were moved from the frame casting to the plastic body casting.

Other HB questions:
Is it true that the buffing wheels and grinding wheels do not exactly interchange between models? I know this is true for such wheels for the Mk. I and II HB's, but what about for the Mk. III, IV and V HB's?

Mk. I = models 509 to 518
Mk. II = models 518 (late) to 561
Mk. III = models 562 to D80
Mk. IV = models 1CR and 1CB
Mk. V = models 2CB, 3CB and 1HD

Heritage 1-HD Handi Butler

This was cool to find I have a rare find. I actually go tit for a low price for the cable being damaged , but complete in original box looks cool in my shop w/ matching Heritage 1 boxes and accessories. :)

To add; yes, the drive cable from as far back to my Mark III kit fits (that I own & used) so I of course swapped a dark blue cable of my Tradition and "bobs your uncle". As well, all other attachments do interchange front and back is same with the only exception being when they dropped the grinder wheel you have no means of using the safety shield if you do install the wheel. The style of cotton & flannel wheels changed through the offerings but all fit.

My main unit is the Dual Sanitronic 50 so I use all the attachments I can for it, Jut for display to show friends. As said above, it was easier to get the real tools but it is a fun attachment, is 1 of my favorite. I noticed my Sanitronics each came wirh 3 wheel stops. I don't remember why. But it is in the little book and marked in the box where to place them.

Here's some cool thing I did to mod power take off units to adapt to my Sanitronics D50/D80 from older or newer kits. The safety switch used for the Handi Butler is the one to left (as viewd from front) for low speed so to adapt my Sanitroni 1 & VII Butlers to run D50/D80 was glue a tab of cut allow bout the thickness of a chop stick end. Shape it to clear the bar and glue it directly to the said of the regular Sanitronic Butler housing. That's how close off it was. I did this with a Tradition on plastic housing to run on the D50/D80 as well. Here you do gotta' measure cause they are spaced a tad. But a good model glue will hold a shaped tab of plastic just fine if prepped right and allow to dry. it down undergo a great deal of force but I'd still attach it carefully. I added a spine to the back of my tab to enforce it.

Now I'm working on adapting an older all aluminium housing to my Heritage but this will take some careful measuring since the safety switch here is now a duplex type where it goes in half way in for low and all the way for high and it is way off to the lower right so one will have to line up correctly. It looks just as easy as all the others I did. I just need to line up and JB Weld (or other type of 2 part glue) a stem of alloy to back of unit where it presses in when closed. This switch is harder to press in so the tab needs a good hold.
Has anyone else tinkered around with switching things around on these fun to use Handi Butlers?

RE: Edit to my above post

I wanted to correct my post above on the Handi Butler interchange parts. The cable I shared between units from old to new was the Mark IV. The Mark II unit of my 518 does not have the rear port for newer cable (bayonet mount) and the cable has to be tightened down with included wrench to a shaft and only to the front. The wire wheel and grinder have to be shaft mounted as well. The housing is similar to the Mark III / IV. If I remember correct, the Mark III is the 1st in series to use the bayonet cable drive mount in rear. I use this model on my D50. It has the colors to match the Sanitronic VII / D50.

I had to use another adapter to use the drill kit but it worked on the Mark II. The Mark II & IV power units I like best to have to share parts with wide range of older models. The Mark III housing was easiest to adapt to go back 'n forth.

The wire-wheel I see on your Heritage I Handi-Butler, while I understand it does fit, was not included with that lineup since it had been discontinued along with the Handi-Sharpener and the associated grinding wheel after the Classic Omega was replaced by the Classic III.

For the Classic III and early Tradition sales, the Handi-Butler accessories were the buffing wheels (and associated polishing sticks), lambswool pad, sanding discs, flexible shaft, drill chuck and jig/saber saw. During mid-1980, during Tradition sales, the jigsaw accessory was dropped. The list of the remaining accessories from this point remained intact for the Heritage I Handi-Butler Group until it was dropped in mid-1983.
