Hi Guys, we picked up this Royal vacuum for the carpets and see what appears to be an oil hole for maintenance. Any ideas of best type of oil and how many drops after how many miles?

You're right, that's an oil feed tube. I use 3 in 1 oil, filling the tube about half way, on all the vintage Royals in the museum. Your front bearing is a ball bearing, since there's no filler tube for the front one. Very nice Royal. Great motor. It should run forever.

Thanks, so about how often should I be doing something with this?

That would depend upon how often it's used and for how long. In general, when that was a new vacuum and someone's ONLY vacuum, filling the oil tube would be done once a year. If you don't use it often, you may be looking at years before it would need to be refilled.

Thanks again, will keep an eye on it than
