I've got two Orecks that I need to find the age, a 2600 and an XL21. The XL21 has a Date stamp of 03329, and the 2600 has a 5 digit code (which I'm assuming is the date) of 00082. A post in the archives said that the first two digits were the year and the last 3 were the day the vacuum was made, but that would mean that the XL21 was made in 2003, 2 years before the vacuum was released. How do I find the age of my vacuums? |

The earliest record of the XL21 on their website is 2005. If you want to check, you can go on the wayback archive. I'll post a link to it. CLICK HERE TO GO TO mieles7's LINK |

It was a Dealer's Only model for the first few years. The dealers got upset with Oreck when they started selling them online and Factory Direct. I left the local Oreck franchise in 2006 so I missed it when the Oreck family sold out and the dealers were 'thrown to the wolves' so to speak. The local franchise lost two or three of the local stores as a result of Orecks being sold at the Big Box stores. If the boss had not been such a bully I might feel sorry for him, but he is and I don't.

I can say that it has been in use since the late 1990s, as early "XL" cleaner had the date stamped on there maker's plate, but with the word "DATE" in front.
if you find 3-5 numbers in a row on the maker's plate of your machine, such as "99123", indicating your oreck was made the 123rd day of 1999,it's likely your cleaner's date stamp. on older models, such as the XL9100,there appears to be no 5-digit code, as there is also a diffrent maker's plate design. While i am not certain, the date code for thesse older models may reside in the serial #,indicating my XL9100 was manufactured the 6th day of 1989? -Alex. |

The date code equation does not work on Orecks prior to 1997. It was towards the end of the production run of the XL9100 they started that format. At the time, the XL9200 was the TOL model in the Oreck store, the 9800 was the middle of the road and the 9000 was the BOL. Also, the XL21 was released in 2000 I have come in contact with alot of machines that began with the "00" date code. IIRC there is a plastic clip in the top of the base housing that holds the handle in place when in the upright position. Hope this helps.
