It Appears to be.....

A Portapower with wheels- we had one model over here. Guess Oreck were badging Hoovers as their compact cannisters at one point !

Looks good in Black I must say ;] I still prefer the Hoover ones though.

Ya know some of the US Portapowers had wheels too? dunno why, I'd have thought it would be easier to just carry the damn thing.

Here's my first (and not the last) Hoover Porta Power. I want the standard one in addition to the excellent Commercial model here. I do not care for the rolling models, and this one has the 33 foot cord and a four foot at best, Slinky hose. That is the only bad thing on this unit.

Yep.

Before Oreck had their "Buster B" Hoover actually private labeled the Port-A-Power for them. I have an Oreck brochure from the mid 80s, and there's a reddish/orange one without the wheels in it.

I think I made a copy of it and either Jeff or myself sent it to Tom Anderson to 'yank his chain'. :-)

I think Hoover did a lot of private labeling of that machine. I saw one come into the store for service once, that had a Ford Motorsport logo on it - presumably put in Ford dealerships to clean out cars...?

And, that black one on eBay must still have the DAM/Portable motor in it... as it has the Convertible switch.

When they switched to the Spirit motor in the early 80's, they put the different switch on the PAP.

Bought Portapower in 1980

About 1980 or 1981 I thought a Hoover Portapower and still use it. I also bought a Hoover Convertible Elite without attachments about the same time. The Convertible Elite replaced a Kirby Classic Omega.

My Portapower uses a cloth bag, but I realize I can get paper bags to use in place of the cloth bag.

Oops--"thought" should be "bought"

I didn't think a Portapower; I bought it! Sorry about the typo.

Hoover private labeled many of their machines for other companies. I have only heard of the Orek badged Swingette. Now I have seen what it looks like! I know that they badged the Swingette for MW and possibly for JCP as well. These were very good machines. The early 1970s version used the very bullet proof Dial a Matic motor. Thanks for posting this link.

While everyone is talking about Hoovers and Orecks I though I should mention the XL80. It takes Hoover Celebrity bags. I have never seen one so I don't know if there is any relation besides bag type or if they are of simmilar design. Take a look at the link below to see what I'm talking about. If anyone has an XL80 please post some pics.

It's funny really, Oreck quality was probably better when they copied hoover designs :P
