Last week, I was out and about, and stopped in a thrift shop to do some browsing, and came home with a pack of bags style "GE-1", even though i did not own this cleaner, i always pick up NOS vintage bags, or NLA bags (I've found a lot of Kenmore style "L" lately, for the Kenmore Twin-Fan heavy duty). I usually consider a bag NOS when it's unopened and sealed, but if the package is teared to the point of which the bags can be easily removed, i consider them NLA, for future use. there bags where NLA, as they could be accessed trough a tear along the bottom. so i carried on and went down to the local Kirby store, to see if they had anything in.
2 things struck me as i walked in,
1:A dream-machine, a GE modern upright (Around the year 2000).
2:A super-nice Kenmore twin-fan two-speed.

I restricted myself to pick one (That is, for the day ;), and Decided on the GE.
Now, ever since i came home with a faulty Shop-Vac "Mighty Mini" a few years back with a shot, sparking motor, i always test things out, and be SURE they work to ym satisfaction. It seemed to work fine, besides a burning smell and being quite faded, i took it home for $25. At home, i went to turn it on, but to nothing.
The thing wouldn't start now!
I had to "Jiggle" the handle for it to kick in, and starting smelling odd.I knew something wasn't right, so i removed the exhaust filter and powered it on, to be greeted by sparks and disaster.
I sat it in the garage, and went back to the drawing board.
I went and brought some belts from the local vacuum, and my friends their confirmed my suspicion.

"Oh,That's the one built by Eureka"

AH HA! I knew that motor sounded familiar! I now had my plan back in action! for replacement parts where now available!
I started thinking 2000 Eurekas, Victorys and World-Vacs and Whirlwinds come to mind.I disassembled the cleaner to get a look at the motor, and to my surprise...

The motor from a World-Vac is a perfect match :D

I was overjoyed! The World-Vac motor i had lying around was a perfect fit! it may appear a little rusty, but still runs fine!
I have washed the parts down, and plan to replace the cord (The one from the GE seems WAY to low-gauge).

Until the parts dry off,I'm gonna do some relaxing (Scrubbing plastics in a tub for an hour sure can be back-breaking!),That, and post some pictures :)

Here's the cleaner, at Step 1.

These were sold in the UK as the Electrolux "Cyclone Power". I believe they were Lux UK's TOL upright for a while

GE

Walmart sold those GE's a few years back. They sell other small appliances branded GE, but they are made by other companies. Somehow they got a hold of the GE trademark.I bought one of the griddles. It worked fine until the control fell apart.

They also had some GE canisters and I beleive a stick vac.

Does your canister take Eureka bags?

My great grandmother had a bagless version of that machine. She replaced it around a year or two ago with a Hoover Windtunnel Supreme, which she replaced with a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser, which was recently replaced with a Shark Navigator. I remember it worked pretty well, she emptied it and replaced the filter on the side often.

The we're made by Eureka for Wal-Mart around 2000,and the builder's plate even says 'WAL-MART STORES INC." In place of "General Electric'or or 'Eureka'.

Alex, nice job fixing your vacuum! I had one of these years ago, but never really liked it....seemed to lose power too quickly, & the HEPA filter wasn't sealed so it made me sneeze.

You are welcome, Alex. Oh, btw, before I forget....if you have trouble finding the correct bags at your vac shop or in stores, you can substitute a Panasonic Type U or Kenmore 5068 upright bag. Those bags will fit VERY tight on the bag tube & work just as well as the GE bags, or at least that's my experience.

Happy Vacuuming with your rebuilt GE....Rob

Pictures of the finished product!

@Kirbylux77, Thanks for those tips.Ironicly, i found 2 packages of bags for this GE (One opened, one sealed) at a thrift store I stopped in on the way to see what the kirby store had to offer.Good thging I always stock up on odd-ball and N.O.S bags!:D
What I do like about the Genuine General-Electric bags for this model is that in every package of genuine bags there is 3 bags and 1 replacement exhaust filter strip
(It fits into a little plastic holding tray, as seen in a below pic).
The original General-Electric bags are really nice quality, though.they're thicker than other, simular bags, "Microlined", I believe the word is.

When I do run out of bags, however, Type U bags will be very helpful!
Until then, Pictures!

In Regards to The King of Plastivacs

I work for Walmart, and the other day I was going through the store and I did note that we are now carrying a bagless Hoover that they've slapped the Elite name on

I have a green bagless version of this machine, that I found on the curb a few months ago. Mine is missing the filter and the filter cover, but it works, albeit with dust caking the filter housing. Do you know where replacement filters can be bought?

Also, the serial number may mean it was made in 2001, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm not even sure,

super-sweeper's profile picture

If they still make filters for this model!

As I said above, The filter is easily replaceable, as it comes in a package of Genuine GE-1 bags (More than likely N.L.A), and snapped into a plastic cartridge.
