Back in thread no. 18936, we discussed the later model Electrolux "Orange" line. In it, I described and depicted my Oxygen 3 Model EL 5035 and Aptitude Model EL 5010 uprights, also my little Harmony Model EL 6985 canister. This last one is actually marked "REL 6985," the "R" being a designator for "rebuilt".

Recently, I acquired an Oxygen Ultra canister, Model EL 6989. These four machines together make a fairly representative line-up that I might've seen at one of the big home improvement stores; I don't recall if it was Home Depot or Lowe's. Minus the EL 1030 (or similar) stick vac, which hasn't come my way yet.

The Oxygen Ultra came in several different variations. The EL 6988, for example, didn't have variable motor speed. The EL 7000 series, which I believe came a little later than my Oxygen Ultra, seem to have electronic controls and some fancier features such as better (telescoping) wand, LED headlight on floor nozzle, etc.

The Oxygen Ultra canister unit that I have is marked "Made in Hungary" and during a thorough cleaning of same, I found out it is a little tricky to disassemble. Lots of little hidden plastic catches and tabs. The plastic wand sections are the same as low-end Eureka canisters, such as the Model 6833. The floor nozzle was marked "Made in China" and has some of the same small parts as the lower-end contemporary Eureka canisters. The base frame of the floor nozzle is made of slightly opaque clear plastic, very good at allowing internal dust accumulations to reveal themselves.

Given a choice, I wouldn't have broken down the Oxygen Ultra canister. However, it had the dog smell so I didn't have that choice. It required complete disassembly and wash-out of all plastic parts to get the smell out. It's all back together and working fine again. It takes the same rather small bags of the Harmony canister. Choices are the Eureka OX series bag or the Electrolux Series S bag.

My Oxygen Ultra has a serial number that doesn't reflect year/month of manufacture as my other three different orange Electroluxes have.
