Well I was walking home today and I saw a flash of green sticking out from behind someone's trash pile. So I picked it up and carried it home, and it was filthy! Probably ought to point out at this point that it was a Dyson DC04 silver and lime. The roller had melted at one end and it had no tools, but I plugged it in and vroom! It worked. Pics:

Wow! you lucky man :) how does it clean then? do you like it? etc my uncle probs still has his DC04 absolute in yellow and purple+ grey, i seen him use it in his car loads of times, now he uses a henry with the fat tank thing in his car now :O I hope he still has the DC04, the only thing broken I saw on it was the wheel capmissing and the bin handle had snapped off. but it was still good though :)

PS How do you get the vacuums out the trash? do you ask? do you worry about people looking at you? if so, how do you take it home? I be embarrased :S

Hi tayyab, it cleans ok but needs a new clutch, or at least a clutch belt, and when I see vacs in the trAsh I just ask the people at the house, and I just carry it home, I don't get embarrassed as everyone who lives near me knows I repair and collect vacuums!
So how many vacs do you have now tayyab?

Nice find! Even if you wanted to clean it up and sell it on, you'd make a profit. I picked up a DC05 recently (pic below) for £12 in a local junk shop. It was missing the handle grip, the on switch and was filthy. I bought a generic replacement handle and switch - £8 for both, and some new filters for £4. Gave it a damn good cleaner, put the hose, cyclone assembly and dust bin through the dishwasher and I sold it on ebay for £63, plus postage.

I've never got on with Dysons. I'm highly allergic to dust and emptying them would always trigger a reaction, although not half as bad as the low efficiency direct cyclones. I once emptied my sisters Vax Swift when she had and it brushed the filter down and spent the next day sneezing and with streaming eyes. I've also found carpet performance to be pretty substandard, especially compared with other cleaners in the same price range. They handle surface litter well, but deep cleaning performance is near minimal - see below link for an agitation test.

Of the 5 Dysons that my grandparents have owned (DC01,  DC04, DC07, DC15 and DC27), the DC04, I thought, was the strongest performer and it was the machine that lasted the longest.

Cool, I was gonna sell it on but I don't have a clutched dyson so I'm keeping it I think:)

That's cool that you have one now then :). Always nice finding something you've been looking for, and still good to know the option is there if you decide to sell it later

the Sebo barely agitated, and when it did it was for about 3 seconds

Chris, how does your Grandma like the DC27? I might consider one as I like it better than my DC25 Animal as its a bit more nicer to use and has more suction.
I totally agree with the DC04 being one of the best Dysons, probably is the best.
Regards

Hi Dysondestijl:
I dont have many vacuums, I do have models DC01, DC04, DC07, DC14, DC25 etc, however there are a load of vacuums I want, including non Dysons, I want a Miele S7, Miele S5, only for their performance, an Electrolux Workzone, Proline UVC18, I did the most stupidest thing ever and used it for sawdust whilst my Dad was doing a project, I broke it. I used the DD handy zip with a broken belt, and It was amazing! I want another one now as I got rid of that due to not finding a belt for the thing. I want a Dyson DC03, DC05, DC08 and DC15, Also a DC27, DC44 and a DC33 Animal, I even want a Dyson DC18 and a DC41 Animal, I have 2 friends with the ball DC40 all floors, and a DC41 Animal, I liked them now for their design and performance, etc. I want a DC28 Animal because of the brush digging into the carpet, I want a VAX 6140 again, a Dyson DC50 and Henry eco

Tayyab, my Grandma barely uses the DC27 anymore, since she had all solid wood floors put in downstairs and bought a George. The Dyson is only used upstairs for a quick clean up. It's a decent performer, but it's the loudest Dyson I've ever used - it really screams.

Michael, talking out of your butt, as usual. You can clearly see the Sebo agitating the carpet. The reason it appears to not agitate towards the end of the video is because its actually sucking  up the cat litter, as opposed to the Dyson which just spits it everywhere.

Well the Sebo didn't really vibrate the larger pieces as

If you look at the smaller pieces they were bouncing around like crazy.

Now, tell me Michael, how many seconds of agitation is that? A little bit more than 3 if you can count at all, to say it only took 7 seconds to clean the carpet anyway, 6 mins out of 7 worth of bouncing cat litter, I think, is pretty good going.

Face it, Michael, the only reason you made that comment is because you don't like me and therefore refuse to acknowledge that something I like is good.

Great video stills, but if you look on my YouTube channel petsandvacuums then one if the first videos I did was my dyson DC25 adgitating pine needles. I think it did great.

In terms of performance, the recent Dyson's have been excellent, although I wasn't impressed by how flimsey the DC40 and DC41 are, especially for the price, but I appreciated the more sleek and streemlined design which made them a lot less bulky to use than some of the earlier machines.

well...

alexhoovers94's profile picture
I did ask Chris what Kirbys were made from (a while back) and he said stainless stell, which then fed back to Michael but then he later discovered they were made of alluminium. The Junior fan is more or less central, I did tell Chris that Micahel thought the Junior had single sided suction, and Chris then said it was smack bang in the middle on his U1104 Junior, which it almost is anyway.

^actually, when asked what Kirbys were made out of, I asked my friend James (Kirby expert). I had no idea what they were made out of, and never pretended to. But that's besides the point.

i highly doubt James would of said they were made of stainle

turbo500's profile picture

Oh my lord, you're actually really thick, aren't you?

I didn't say that James said they were made of SS. When asked "what are Kirbys made of?" I asked James - he knows far more about them than I do (despite growing up with one), and he advised they were made of aluminium, which is what I then went back with. At no point did I proclaim that I knew what they were made out of.

Now, back on topic, if you don't mind?
