Hoover T Series?

Rob, certain people see this whole history very differently.

The True Hoover was from 1989 and prior. Then Maytag took over. While many of us do like a lot of products that came out during that time that Maytag owned Hoover from 1990 forward we also become aware that Maytag really worked to destroy Hoover image, by cheapening and cutting costs everywhere they could to include not maintaining factories. This we learn is one of the reasons that North Canton, Ohio is not what it was as Hoover factories are now closed. I've heard those factories are so worn down, they're just too outdated for current production and in some ways dilapidated and unsafe to work in. There condition is too far past what companies would consider to put repairs into and have reached that point of complete demolition and rebuilding to work and make safe.

There are still some Maytag products around some good designs and some very bad. TTI still hasn't owned Hoover that long for us to judge exactly what products are "theirs" for the real Hoover that they want it to be. TTI recieved no paperwork or any means of history to know anything about Hoover and the company they were before Maytag.

Back to the thread at hand:
There are several different T series models and I know that there are several different brush rolls for them as well. So depending on the brush roll, and if it has the brush roll on/off pedal the belt systems will be different. Additionally neither Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Giant Food stores or many other big box stores carry genuine Hoover products. Wal-Mart is Arm & Hammer, Sears and Kmart carry Sears Ultracare, Best Buy and Lowes are 3M Filtrete, Target, I've seen many different brands usually Honeywell, Home Depot is Micro Clean by Home Care Industries. Many food stores carry Rug Doctor, Giant Food stores carry PurePower, Wegmans Food Store carries 3M Filtrete.

Hoover vacuums should use genuine Hoover belts available from many online sources, Ace Hardware, True Value Hardware or your local authorized Hoover Service Center.

I think the primary question is belt material and design. A Kenmore Power nozzle has a very thin belt. But it is composed of several different fibers in there and it's a serpentine belt. The serpentine belt in the Kenmore power nozzles is designed to fit the CenTEC CT20DX head which is the power nozzle manufactured by CenTec systems and branded by Kenmore for use on the Lime Green, Tangerine, White and Blueberry current market models. This is just an example.

Checkrate/Likes I was at the store this morning (picking up some belts for my Powergroom) ((I know, Bissell. AHH)) and I noticed that the belts for the T Series Hoovers are crazy thin. Like whoa there crazy, thin. Are all the complaints I've seen floating around the web (amazon, target, even hoover.com) true about the belts constantly slipping and just failing in general? Anyone have any firsthand experiences with them?

Checkrate/Likes 1 The Hoover WindTunnel Max/Hoover WindTunnel T-Series are TTI designed machines. The Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Edition/Hoover Tempo are Hoover designed machines. The Hoover designed machines are much better than the TTI designed machines.

Checkrate/Likes *I have experience with one* My mom and dad bought one of the green Hoover T Series at Sears that you can find anywhere in November 2009 when they were still pretty new and it was a pretty good vacuum for about 2 years until that's what started happening. The belt slip. It happened at least once everytime we used it on the carpet and my dad got so frustrated with it that he put it outside the house for someone to take and I helped him pick out a Hoover Windtunnel Self-Propelled bagged vacuum a couple of days later and they have had zero problems with it. My tip if you want to buy a new Hoover: Get a Self-Propelled Windtunnel.

Checkrate/Likes I bought a refurbished Hoover T Series almost a year ago (it did not include a screw for the handle, so I had to buy one from the Hoover website) and I haven't had any problems with the belt. My mom is the person who uses it normally, however every time I use it I can feel/hear the belt slipping some, like it needs to be replaced. I normally replace belts every 6 months to every year and I just haven't gotten around to replacing the belt in this one yet, but it does seem like this vacuum's belt needs to be replaced sooner than most other uprights I've had do, since I normally replace belts before they start slipping. But it's never slipped off the bar that it slips onto. It isn't the model with the selector for hard floor and carpet.

Checkrate/Likes TTI is currently making the original WindTunnels, original Elites, original Convertibles, original SteamVacs, original Conquests, original PortaPowers. TTI closed the factory for the original Elites in December 2012.

Checkrate/Likes *not sure which one....* I have a merchandise credit for a store that sells a few vacs but not much selection. I either decide on a DD vigor or a Bissell smart clean rewind. The vac will be for my aunt who has a dog that sheds. I'm afraid the Bissell will melt its own brushroll from the dog hair building up in the rollers. Then I'm afraid the DD won't hold up and might be too flimsy. Both machines got excellent rewiews and the can get both each for the same price. So which one if you had to choose???...they did sell the t series but sold out. Each machine cost $59.

Checkrate/Likes *Hoover T Series* I own a T series TTI Hoover and yes those belts are extremely thin. The belt on mine broke within three or four uses and I went and bought one that was supposed to fit, only to discover it was too long! I did finally get the proper belt and haven't had too much problems with it since (well, after breaking two more belts during normal use), but each time I turn it on, I always half-expect it to pop again... But to be totally honest with you, I have a really nice Hoover convertible and a Eureka F&G that I use most of the time so the T Hoover stays parked in the basement now!
