So I did end up getting the original fantom from the basement of the vac shop, plus a couple other things for $35 total. The fantom didn't have a cord, but he was able to run it for me. I just got a cord for it yesterday and it works great now!! It's not perfect, it needs the light bulbs replaced, and I need to find the original cream colored bumper, but not bad for a vacuum from 1995! I also got a kenmore destiny plus for my birthday (which is today). This is very similar to the destiny we had when I was younger. The only problems with it is the left light no longer works, and the vacuum only releases into the vacuuming position half way- not a big deal though. I'm very happy to have these, and I also got a D.A.M from the same basement, it needs a cord, but that will have to wait a while. So, what do you guys think?

Happy birthday Mitchell! That's the first model of the Dial-A-Matic, and looks to be in really nice condition, that's a keeper for sure! That model had a lot of TV exposure when it came out, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Bewitched, and I believe I Dream of Jeannie.

Dial-A-Matic!

As above, the first. No bag signal.Lower hose did not remove to unclog and original slim suction knob matching bag door latch which improved styling but later modified for functioal reasons.I think all later versions had bag signal and some models would add height adjuster and even headlight and then they became worlds first power drive. All great,if noisy, but there is something special about 'firsts'.Happy Beating,Sweeping and Cleaning.

PS

I should have added-Be gentle with handle where it connects to housing. This can be a weak spot. The D-A-Ms had possibly the best carry handle ever.Use it! and not the handle.Did you get atts?

Unfortunatley I didn't get attachments. Luckily I know it can be ran without the attachment hose.

Sadly, I had to sell the D.A.M. I didn't think it was worth the $40 to get a new cord, because I just got a nearly perfect green dial a matic 1149 from a garage sale for $10 a couple weeks ago, with some attachments, the accessory bag, bags, and the manual. Since I have a nice D.A.M. now, I sold the other one, I am trying to sell many currently. No fantoms are for sale though!

Very cool, I like the classic Hoover. The cost to make this kind of quality today would make a vacuum unaffordable.

What is that grey canister next to the Fantom Fury?

Is the Lux for sale/trade? Is it a Commemorative Edition Ultralux?

Really nice vacs. I love that Diamond Jubilee. There was one of those in my family but she threw it away-bad motor.

I think that gray canister beside the Fantom Fury is a Hoover Dimension canister vac. If you look close enough, there appears to be a Quadraflex Powermatic powernozzle beside it.

Yes, that's a diamond jubilee, but the label sticker is long gone. It isn't for sale though, because I bought this one to replace a nicer one that I sold, and regretted. The hoover is a dimension 1000. I got it 1 1/2 years ago for $10 at my high school's sale. It needed work on the powerhead, but it works great now!! It doesn't filter well though. I love old hoovers but I now have a nice d.a.m so I didn't want to spend extra money to fix the more beat up one. I also still have a hoover dial a matic powerdrive, that needs a switch/wiring up the handle. I may fix it, but not for a while. I got it at a vacuum shop for cheap. They said it worked fine, but It only turned on occasionally, now it doesn't turn on at all. I am trying to sell it on C.L, but will probably take it off, because most people that buy vacuums on C.L don't really appreciate what the thing is worth. One of my two concept ones with a Kenmore car vac included won't sell for $30, and I know it's worth more than that to the right person. People usually don't pay big bucks in my area, and the the bagless ones I get sell faster. fantoms are really the only bagless I like, mainly for sentimental reasons. My hoover empower sold within 2 days of listing it, and my hoover elites have been on for over a week, and nobody has even replied about it. Out of about 15 vacs I saw at target yesterday, only one was bagged. All plastic, with containers that won't stay pretty looking for long. I'm sorry, I've gotten & sold 40+ machines since my last posts, I've just have not found the time. I will probably post update pics of my collection soon. MUCH has changed!

Oh, by the way, fantom made a RARE Kenmore version of the fantom fury, called the "Destiny II". There is a thread here somewhere on it.
