That sounds like a very reasonable price. Please look into the cost of shipping UPS to Benton, Pa.
Do you know how to pack the Classic 111 in the main box? if not I can send instructions as I used to sell Kirby's and packed many Classic 111's. It also needs to be in a seperate box to keeep the main Kirby box free of stickers, tape etc.. Please send me an email at alextaber1@yahoo.com for form of payment. Alex Taber. |

Consider the Classic 111 sold! All I need to know is the exact cost including shipping. I need about a week to finalize things, so I'm thinking of a shipping date around March 10. We can work all this out via email. Please post a picture with the attachment box open, and the instruction book. It looks like a basic K&A Kirby and attachments. You said there is no Rug Renovator, or Handi-Butler, and I assume no Miracle-Head, not to worry, I have those in storage.
I really want that Kirby and feel that $200.00 plus shipping is a very fair cost. Thanks, Alex. |

The term K & A was used in the various Kirby branch office. It meant Kirby and attachmments. There was also K, A, and RR, or K, A, and HB. Selling the entire machine was called Kirby complete! So what I'm getting is the basic K & A.
I'm very pleased, and look forward to having a Classic 111 again. Thanks, Alex. |

Kirby Complete. - The entire package, which was most of our sales.
K & A - Kirby and attachments. Which was the second most common. K, A, & RR - Kirby, attachments, and Rug Renovator. K, A, & HB - Kirby, attachments, and Handi-Butler. K and RR - Kirby and Rug Renovator (no attachments). K and HB - Kirby and Handi Butler (no attachments). Basic Kirby - just the upright without anything else. |

The Rug Renovator included the Mirical Head, and the Handi-Waxer.
The Attachments included the box of tools, hose, Spray gun, floor duster (felt pad), and bare floor/ rug tool with swivle elbow. In the early days the Shag Rake was standard, but once shag carpeting went out of fassion it was deleted and became an optional tool. Needless to say, every sale was centered around the needs of the customer. A woman with hardwoods might need the upright, hose, attachments, and Mirical Head, but not the Rug Renovator. I also sold to a man who had a craftshop. He was going to buy just the upright, Handi-Butler and nothing else. I told him the hose and dusting brush could be used to vacuum up the sawdust on his workbench). In most cases we sold the upright, hose and attachments as a basic package and went from there. A common set up for people with hardwood floors was the upright with the Mirical Head instead of the standard nozzle, with that used for area rugs, upholstered furniture, mattress etc.. In fact this is the way I'll use my Classic 111 once I get the Mirical Head out of storage. The combinations were endless. |

When I was a Kirby dealer, the Miracle Head and Waxer were packaged in the box with the K & A through the Tradition. When the Heritage came out, it was then packaged with the Super Renovation Group (new name for Rug Renovator). I believe they did that because until the Heritage, the Miracle Head and the Rug Renovator each had their own castings. When the Heritage came the Miracle Head and Rug Renovator shared the same casting for both of the brushes. Now with my Sentria, the Shampooer and the Waxer/Miracle Head are separate groups again. Oy! Someone get them to make up their minds! :-) |

the Handi-waxer was a new attachment which came out with the Classic 111. Prior to that it was the Roller-Waxer, which was outfitted with a long pole. The Handi-Waxer went on the end of the curved wand, followed with the straight wand. I have used both. I have a Roller-Waxer, and like it. As for the Handi Waxer, I find it anything but 'handy!' Our branch manager, Will Hart, didn't like the Handi-Waxer either. He felt, as most of us did, that it was a badly designed tool. So he often said. "If the guy who designed this thing was here right now I'd know exactly where I'd put it!"
I have hardwood floors that were treated with a pollyurathane, so they never need to be waxed, just vacuumed and washed. Actually I use a steamer. The Mirical Head will also be good to get up the dog hair on the area rugs, and fluff them. And with a golden retriever, there's a lot of dog fur! I'm really excited about getting this Classic 111, Hoover 94 and I have agreed on a shipping date, which will be about 3 weeks from now. I'll post pictures when I get it, and hopefully he'll post pictures before he packs it. Maybe a picture of the tool box open. Thanks again Hoover 94, Alex Taber. |

I would like the Handi-Waxer, and anything that goes with the Classic 111. While I don't have shag carpeting or any wall to wall carpeting, who knows, I may need it someday.
Do you know the history of Kirby? I have a lot of information on James B. Kirby 1885 - 1971. Here is a look at my Kirby collection. If you look at the attachment wall you will see a Handi-Waxer. |

I just took a good look at my new (to me) Kirby Classic 111, and I want to say thanks for not wrapping the cord in a figure 8 pattern, as it's bad for the cord. I think it looks really great. Kirby's tend to tarnish quickly, but a little 'Mothers polish' works wonders. You said that the attachments were never used? Trust me, they will be once they get here, I vacuum everything. Those boxes also look great.

Lets try this again.
Right! I knew a lady who bought two kirbys from me. First a Classic 111, then a Tradition. For some strange reason she didn't like the disposable bag system and had me put the Classic 111 bag on the Tradition, and gave me back the old Classic 111. When she died in 1993, I got her strange Tradition and put it in the collection. These are the strange things you do to please a customer. Alex. |

I really like Staples, they packed my computer in Indiana and shipped it here to Pa., and it got here without a scratch. If you take the Kirby, packed as I discribed, to a Staples, they'll have the box to fit it, and pack it for you. Most likely put Bubble wrap around the Kirby box, (that little bit of tape's not a problem) and put it in an outer box. Our branch office used to get 4 Kirby's packed in a box, no bubble wrap, in fact, I doubt it even existed in 1977. I'm sending the $50.00 you requested for shipping, if it comes to more, tell me and I'll send you that too. UPS will also pack it for you.
Thanks again. Alex Taber. |

Tell them you need to get the sani-em-tor which is missing here. As far as I know, my new (to me) Classic 111 is in great condition. I also understand that the attatchments were rarely used.
The backstory on this is that I have a G-4, which I bought new in 1994. It, and my Electrolux model LX, were my two daily drivers till 2006 when my partner passed away and everything went into storge in Scaramento, California. In May of 2010 I had a friend pack up my stuff and we drove it to Chesterton, Indiana. In the next few months I'm transfering it here so I can go through dozens of boxes of tools, optional attatchments and VCCC paperwork. Finally, after six and a half years the G-4 will be out of storage and treated to a full restoration, as will all my vacuum cleaners. However, as I no longer have a home of my own, I doubt there will be a display room. But the collection, while in storage, will be only a mile away, and returned to tip top condition. And who knows, the storage unit just might become a display room! |

Is one of my favorite machines. It is one of the few machines that I bought new and still have. Although lightly used, I did send it back to Cleveland for a rebuild and, of course, it came back like new. Converted the cloth bag to a paper bag assembly (they used the Legend II bag assembly) and I put the tools in a later caddy. Up in my bedroom closet and gets run at least every few weeks. A beautiful machine!

Good luck in selling Tarantula Arms. The last time I was there I'd just lost Charles (Brookreson) and was really hurting. You posted a picture of me listening to the piano music. A lot of people thought I was sleeping, but actually I was crying very softly, as I was in a lot of emotional pain. You helped me through that without even knowing it. Now I'm fine. In a few weeks I get my stuff fron storage in the Indiana dunes national park, bring it here to Pa. and will start to restore it. There will be before and after pictures galore! All my best wishes for the new Tarantula Arms. Alex Taber. |

If you bought it when it first came out, you're the original owner, so you can get a factory rebuild. That was what I was going to do with my G-4 that's in storage, but the cost of going to Indiana, getting the truck and bringing it back here didn't make sense once I saw the one posted on this thread. Yes, I do plan to get my stuff, around May 1st, and yes the G-4 will get a rebuild, but later.
Looks like you and I got our Classic 111's the same week. I'd been in Dubuque, Iowa selling the Omega, then had to go back to my home town of Wallingford, Connecticut. I decided to buy a brand new Kirby Omega, so I called the branch office. As I was a salesman in Dubuque and had not become a trainner yet, I watched the guy demo to me. He was great, and as I was a former salesman for Kirby, knew the close procedure. I went easy on this guy. He wrote down the price, $549.00 Complete, and I opened my checkbook, saying "one Kirby complete, paid in full!" He nearly dropped his demo kit. That's when I told him about working in Dubuque. That Kirby was red because we were celebrating our nations 200th birthday. Yes, I remember those handles, mine had one too. They had a tendency to break, defect in the plastic I think, and the handles also has a weak spot near the place where you insert the handle pin. Mine didn't have either problem. I had that Kirby till 1981, when I got into a relationship, and took my stuff with me to Fenton, Michigan. The relationship didn't last, and unfortunately the Kirby Classic 111 wasn't sent back with the rest of my stuff. Over the years I've taken in a few Classic 111's on trade. I kept one to put in my display, but really miss the original, that's why I'm getting my new one, new to me, that is. Once I get my stuff from Indiana, all my machines get cleaned, and polished. I'll post before and after pictures of each, and if the storage unit is big enough I might set up a display area. Who knows? So my Classic 111 should be here in about 10 days. More on that later. Alex Taber. |

The Kirby Classic 111 got here at 1:15 this afternoon. Already I've given it a good workout, and to my suprise, there's an unopened bottle of Odoriffic. That Kirby did a great job getting the dog hair. Just a light workout today, tomorrow a whole house cleaning.
My Electrolux model LX is in it's closet, sulking, but will get over it. No, I don't plan to abandon it, but the Kirby will be my daily driver for a while. Thank you Hoover 94, Alex Taber. |

The Classic III is a great machine. One of my favorites from that era is the Classic Omega. I got lucky a few weeks ago and found one at a second hand shop for $99. Came with the canister attachments minus the hose. All c ompletely original and in awesome condition, so if you are half as happy with your C III, as I am with my Omega, then you are over the moon. Congrats again and have fun!

I'm also 'over the moon!'I bought a Kirby Classic 111 when they first came out, the first week in fact which was June 18, 1976. In late 1977, I took it to a new relationship, when that fizzled out, my stuff was shipped home, but he kept the Classic 111. I took several in on trade, but that's not the same. Finally, I have my own Classic 111 again!
I see a lot of stories from this former Kirby training manager on the thread. 'Have you ever worked/owned a vacuum store?' Memories galore! Enjoy the Classic Omega, Alex Taber |

It should be known the Handi-Waxer originally debuted with model 561 in 1961, and was initially discontinued when the Classic 1CR was replaced by the Classic Omega 1CB in 1973. When the Omega in turn was superseded by the Classic III 2CB in 1976, the Miracle Waxer (originally introduced as the Roll-O-Waxer with the Dual Sanitronic 80) was discontinued and the Handi-Waxer reinstated, but the HW was dropped again in March 1983, during Heritage 1HD sales.
