So i finally get my hands on a bright green Bagged WindTunnel 2, $5 from a garbage picker junk dealer who originally wanted $25. Get it home & disassemble the beast & start to wonder if i over paid. First, these machines must be a pinnacle of sorts for overly complicated, heavy, yet fragile design. I got the broken bottom plate peddle release issue, i got various screw anchors missing etc...but i also got a few Hepa bags thrown in as well.
But what sent this vac to the curb? Well i found out when i took apart the brush roll. After literally chipping through the most impacted clay like filth i've yet to encounter under one end cap (the other just had the usual spool of hair x 2) i find the bearing top has disappeared. But i also smell burt plastic & lo & behold the plastic roll end cover has melted leaving the thread structure way off center, but still firmly attached! (See next pic)

Further adventures...

The hose on this machine seems held in place by magnets that don't quite get the job done, has lots of circuitry for what i have no idea. That said i'm still eager to get it in shape & try it out. It's missing two on board attachments so i was thinking of ditching the whole above floor capability & clean up the look of this thing by removing the hose, turbo brush etc...but that would require more energy than simple sticking with, & sorting out the intended design.

does anybody know the clean air macine history at Hoover by major models? I know it started with Dial- a-Matics through to this WindTunnel 2, what's in between?
