Look What I found on Bissell's Website

My parents got a Bissell Big Green Powerbrush 1680, I believe was the model number. It cleaned well but we had lots of problems primarily stemming from the o-rings at end of hose handle. The O-rings wore or got loose busting the plastic for upholstery nozzle and wands. Hoses leaked solution too or no spray would come out. Tried blowing out solution tubes with hot water and air compressor too. It was not a faulty pump but was the hose. I bet we replaced the upholstery nozzle twice, wand twice and hose 2 or 3 times. Along with replacing o-rings a few times which we were able to find some similar in size at Home Depot.

On its last use, it was getting due for a new upholstery nozzle as the window wasn't staying on well. The last straw was the wand breaking along with connection to power brush cleaning head. Warranty was long gone, we did not want to invest in another new wand, another new upholstery nozzle and either power nozzle neck or quite possiby all new power foot cleaning head as is the term stated in the Bissell manual. I want to say we had the Bissell for about 8 years but we incurred a few costs with different part replacements. It did not edge clean and I always ran upholstery nozzle along all baseboards of room. The PowerBrush powerfoot head did not wet or scrub about a 1.5-2" inche radius along all sides of unit. The solution spray bar was recessed in quite far.

We replaced the Bissell with a Hoover Steamvac Widepath F6030-900. The Hoover is shockingly around 10 years old because I remember using it in my college apartment in Fall 2003. No parts have been replaced on it, it has never been to a shop for repairs. I've taken it apart and done some cleaning once or twice but that's it. The Hoover is doing just fine and I just shampooed my parents new house with it in November 2012.

Checkrate/Likes Yes, this unit has been out for years. It is a straight suction canister. Therefore even though it is water filtration, it's more of a wet/dry vacuum design for them as it is either for shampooing carpets or straight suction. There is no electric power head option. Bissell does offer an air turbine powered head for this, but not sure how much suction the unit has to power that for carpet.

Checkrate/Likes I wanted one of those last year, and I may have bought one, but they weren't available in stores, so I never went for it. I didn't like that there was no electric power nozzle and that there wasn't an auxiliary grip like on on the original big greens for deep cleaning. Still a neat idea, but there's no separator, it looks like a "gravity" system so I imagine a lot of stuff would bypass the water. There are a couple of advertising videos on youtube that are kind of fun to watch.

Checkrate/Likes It's more of a butchered version of the original Big Green from the early 1990's. I mean Rob, your parents had a Big Green Powerbrush, and it didn't hold up very well.

Checkrate/Likes Interesting. I'd seen them before, but never paid much attention. I like that it appears to have a horsehair dusting brush and separate upholstery tool with red lint strips. Quite expensive though for a straight suction machine.

Checkrate/Likes I do think that Bissell slapping discontinued names on new products they make is a bad idea.
