It seems that My Lux Olympia One may have taken on a virus or something, made some strange noises, slowed down, then resumed normal speed. Not wishing to cause any harm, I decided not to use it for the rest of the cleaning day. (I clean once a year whether or not the house needs it. That's the kind of guy I am!) Now, this unit has served me very well, I have even used it in the garage, hooked to my dust collection system for my saws, etc. Never a bit of trouble. But that's not what I really wanted to talk about. In order to finish doing my above the floor chores, (Hoover Convertible now handles the carpets-Thank you again Tom Anderson)I selected my (Universal) Super Chief. Now, I was always surprised that Vacuum Cleaner manufactures waited as long as they did to put wheels on machines. I mean we have had the Wheel since the early 1800's. But after using the runnered vacuum this weekend, in actual work, I found (Oh help me) that I preferred it. It didn't wiggle it's way off table tops, (doing ceiling fans) didn't get in too big a hurry to get right up under my ass on the tiled floors, It just seemed more stable. I even liked picking it up and moving it to the next area instead of pulling the hose to bump a table leg etc. Because, even though the Olympia had bumpers, sometimes it still left a mark on paint. So now what? I guess now I'll prefer to dig the last sock out of my Wringer Washer water with a stick, instead of letting a newer appliance spin dry my clothes. Rick.

I think that you are onto something here. These older appliances were so well designed that they actually functioned WELL! Can you imagine a new $500 or more canister with NO wheels? I can see your point about the doggone thing running up my heels on the tiled floor. At least your Super Chief would stay put.

We too cleaned the house top to bottom inside and out this weekend. I have to say that Heather and I only used our trusty Hoover Convertible for everything. The tools have just enough suction to get all of the cobwebs. I guess I did use my Hoover Floormate to wash all of the floors. Now if Hoover (or anyone else for that matter) would invent something to wash all of the windows, then I would be happy!
