New hose for my old Electrolux

So I have this old, blue Electrolux 1205 canister that I picked up about nine years ago at Goodwill for around $20. including the Power Nozzle and all the attachments. It's in really great shape except for the plastic handle on the end of the hose. It's got a couple of cracks running lengthwise from where the hose joins the handle. It had been repaired with two-inch clear packing tape when I got it, and later I took that off and put on a couple of nylon cable ties. I found some neon colored ones at the Dollar Tree and used bright blue ones that were almost the same hue as the handle itself.

At one point, I got the bright idea of replacing the handle and got a white one from a slightly later version of that hose, but it turns out the design of the hose end where the handle goes had changed somewhat between the blue one I had and the white one this handle had come from, so I figured I had wasted a few dollars, chalked it up to experience and put the old blue one back on with cable ties.

I thought little more about it except when I saw the handle sitting in with the other accesories. Then just last week, I was looking on eBay and what do I find but a white hose from an Electrolux 1405 vacuum. The hose was missing its handle and was priced accordingly, so I bought it and put my handle on it (took all of two minutes) Now I have a nice hose with no cracks. The hose is white with blue flecks on it, so it color coordinates with my blue vacuum. Suction seems to be at least as good as that of the original hose.

Checkrate/Likes *new hose* I personally go for a new vynle hose either original or aftermarket. I am assuming you have the woven style still. i find the plastic hoses provide more flexibility and last longer than the woven hoses not to mention a much better job of sealing the suction power in.

Checkrate/Likes Yes, the replacement hose is oven, just like the original. I seriously considered a vinyl replacement hose, but cost was a factor and this was a lot less expensive soluiton.

Checkrate/Likes 1 Have U bought either of these hoses? TotalVac & eBay sell high quality hoses at less than retail prices from Aerus/Electrolux. Genuine Aerus/Elecrolux hose Generic (high quality) Electrolux hose beige The generic has a SLIDING (easier to open/close) suction control valve; & the genuine has a "screw-type" suction control valve. However, the generic hose also has ON/OFF switch for the PN; but the genuine hose doesn't have the ON/OFF switch for the PN. Both hoses swivel at the handle end, so U won't end up twisting the hose & possibly ruin it.

Checkrate/Likes I have a whole lot less invested in my hose than either of those cost. The new hose I got has the screw type valve and does swivel. The original hose has a slider valve and also swivels. I personally prefer the screw valve because I was constantly hitting the slider on the old blue hose. The switch would be a nice feature, but for the money involved I can live without it.
