Hi All,
Just wondering if the Nutone hose shown in the picture would fit a standard universal outlet or if it only works in the older square Nutone outlets from the 90's? Thanks for any guidance...looking to get a basic hose for my upstairs.

Works on my inlets

I have one of those hoses I use at the store. It works fine with my universal Hayden type inlets. Nutone wall ends are a tad bit smaller than standard but this one doesn't give me any trouble. I have tried a few switched NuTone hoses on my Hayden inlets and most don't get a strong enough connection to keep the vacuum running. I can still get standard hoses like that, that are universal fit. I don't know what kind of Power Head you have but Nutone handles have a higher button set that doesn't fit on the standard Eureka style wand.

Thanks for the quick reply...I had no idea about the button lock position. I guess I'd have to pick up the matching powerhead...the one that looks similar to the Roto-Matic powerhead my mom had on one of her vacuums growing up. Right now I have the Vacuflo electric hose with the Edge (Wessel Werk) powernozzle but grew up with a central vac set on each level of the house and am used to that convenience. I sure wish my builder would have allowed us to install a Hide a Hose but they don't offer them yet.

I have one of those power heads

Hey Scott, I have an extra Nutone 598 power head somewhere in my mothers basement if your interested. I will have to look for it next time I stop by there. I may also have a good used hose or three for NuTone. My Parents and Grandparents all have NuTone systems so I tend to hold on to a lot of spare parts. You do have standard inlet valves right and not vacuflo valves?

The button lock position shouldnt matter at all on the hose handle. I have the standard nutone hose, the BN32, and it is just an ivory coloured wire reinforced hose. It has the fit all metal cuff on the inlet end, and it has that metal handle on the other end. It works in my NuTone wands with the higher button hole on the wand, and it fits in the Eureka standard wands as well. I dont think it would matter. You should be able to use any powernozzle. I have the 398 and it is my favourite over all, but the 598 has the light on it, and it would be nice to find one someday. I have three nutones, 353C, 353CA, and 450.

Daniel

Does your hose have a button lock that locks into Eureka wands? If so I doubt that its a genuine NuTone. All of the Genuine NuTone hoses I have had and seen have the higher button that won't lock onto a generic Eureka type wand.

I too would love to find a 598 powerhead...there was one on Ebay last week and I didn't get it! Go figure ;)

Mine is a genuine nutone hose.. strange how it does work in the eureka wands. Nutone offered wands which were double drilled for the higher button though with their powerheads. My wands have the higher button and same with rug and floor nozzle which have the metal curved neck with the higher button. My hose handle works in the generic Eureka wands though. Strange!

Forgot to note that mine is the standard wire reinforced non electric nutone hose. Its the most basic hose you can get that is durable, and I love it.

Just a guess

I am wondering if your hose is more recent? There is always a chance Nutone has outsourced that hose to someone else and now gets them with the standard button set. All my hoses are old, one is pushing 35 years.
