This is my latest vacuum in my collection.  It is a Hoover Convertible that is almost exactly like the one my dad let me pick out and  buy all by myself when we need a new vacuum in Florida.  I bought this from someone here on the site, but can't remember who.  The seller took great care of it, and it works perfectly.  The bag was modified to use a type A bag instead of the normal type C, but I can change that back sometime.  Now I just need to find an original set of attachments for it, and a bag like the one on the machine my dad let me buy, and it will be perfect.

Very nice find!

That same model was used in the 1970s sitcom Maude, in the episode "The Household Feud." After knocking over the urn which contained the ashes of her housekeeper's late husband, Maude used it to vacuum up the ashes! Fortunately, at the beginnning of the episode, the housekeeper had just changed the bag! Then, when the housekeeper realized what happened, she asked Maude, "is that Cyril (her husband)?" To which Maude pointed at the bag and said, "No, this is HOOVER, see?"

That is model U4089, finished in Goldtone and Oyster White. One thing you can say about the Hoover Convertible without fear of contradiction; they just keep on going, year after year!

Congratulations on your find! It will make an admirable addition to your collection.
