I've had vacuums that do this, the belt is stretched so its trying to slip off the spindle, the black residue is where the belt has come into contact with the case. Try changing the belt |

Must be a panasonic thing. It happens on both of mine, as well as the carpet pro Panasonics I use at work. |

Yeah it happened on my UK Panasonic bagless before I got so annoyed with Panasonic I threw it out! |
