I was vacuuming this afternoon with my red Kenmore Progressive canister. It worked fine until I tried to extend the wand. Then the brush roll, headlight, dirt sensor and LED wand light went off. I tried removing the hose, wand and PN and reconnecting, but no luck. The wand light came on for brief moment when I tried adjusting the wand again, but then went out again.

I've only had it for six months, so I think this should be covered by warranty. I'm going to see if I can take it back to Sears. I've never heard of this problem with the wand adjustment.

I would bet that one of the wand contacts burnt up. Disconnect wand from power nozzle and hose and look at contacts and prongs for all of those connections. If good condition, all should be gorgeous shiny copper. Otherwise a contact may be burnt. Also check reset button on power nozzle.

Do you have the machine posted with this link? The one with the swivel head.

I haven't heard any problems with this machine and its one I like, just wish it had universal hose end.

Just read customers reviews online for the red one and I'm stunned. I thought that one was a good unit. It seems its common for that model to lose power in wands.

Yes, that's the same one.

I checked the wand and Powermate prongs and both looked fine, and I tried pushing the belt reset button. I think something in the wand cable broke. I will try taking it to Sears after Christmas and see. Unfortunately from the reviews I read the current Kenmore Progressives have a lot of problems. Although they are not as fancy, people seem more satisfied with the lime and orange machines. At least they use the older style wand and hose connections.

Yeah, I'm more of a fan with the green and Orange due to the universal hose end. They green uses plain wands with a cord running up from the power head. The orange uses the quick disconnect but its the same setup that Kenmore and Panasonic have used for years. Eventually one of the disconnects may burn up but they'll still last for many years till that happens.

Well I took it back last week and Sears gave me no problem taking it back for service. It took a while for them to process it but they were very apologetic and said they had trouble finding it in the system. It should be ready by the middle of this month.
