but i beg of you.....DONT but it from that seller. he is a crook! he is famous for never paying, or sending a machine. i would hate for you to get excited over a treasure like that, then never to recive it....=(......just my advice...

Indeed, so I don't know what you're on about, unless he plays silly buggers with some people and not others and if he did, why didn't the people in question leave him bad feedback? I see none, just one neutral.

This particular individual purchased a convertible from me and he failed to pay me after two weeks. I ended up canceling the transaction on eBay. I felt uneasy and didn’t want to continue with the transaction because of some things I’ve heard about him in the past. I also purchased a blue High Performance convertible from him off of eBay and one of the plastic tabs was broken on the bottom plate. The bag collar also had one of the tabs broken off. The convertible was in good shape otherwise. None of this was mentioned in his description. I didn’t leave negative feedback, but should have. The vacuum is long gone, I replaced the bag collar and my uncle gave it to an elderly lady who needed a vacuum.

I can’t speak for anyone else; maybe I’ve just had bad luck with this individual. Dealing with eBay is risky due to a wide variety of reasons, anyway! But thankfully I've had good luck overall!

Some of this illustrates the two basic problems with buying vintage vacs on eBay.

(1) You cannot see the object in person. Like anything else "vintage", the whole deal is very condition sensitive. It's not at all like buying something new.

(2) Also because you aren't buying in person, shipping is involved and when it comes to vacs, it usually involves more than a trivial amount of money. When you buy something small that doesn't work out and requires return to the seller, it's no big deal. Not so with vacs. High shipping prices also contribute to sometimes intractable problems dealing with a return to a seller. E.g., they don't want to have to eat even the original shipping which eBay/PayPal resolution usually results in.

Be very, very wary when buying vintage equipment on eBay.

I too have had very expensive problems with him in the past but not through ebay, it was through paypal. A very expensive lesson.

Hoover Convertible mo 31

Back to the original question the 31 in general was the first standard convertible(half bumper,no headlight, snaps on bag, etc)from late 50s when the deluxe 65 had full bumper, headlight, zipper and more. They both had all the "beats as it sweeps as it cleans" quality and could 'convert' to attachment use.The 31 was the only household converible with the foot switch that would be seen later on comm models. There was an early 31 with 2 tone green colors. This seems the be the more rare later model with the white base.As to this particular 31 others above have knowledge that could/should be considered.Happy Hoovering!
