I brought my 33 Convertible to John Gregory's for a tuneup.  He's gotten some neat new goodies.  I took the pics, he'll add the verbage.

Marvelous Hoovers!!

OH MY!!! Lots of GGGGGOODIES!!! Wonderful. Is that Celebrity available for a trial run!!! HAha!!

I guess we should all give thanks to Agnes Moorehead!! I must get the full story sometime of how all of these machines came to John Gregory as I know he doesn't take old. He must've had a trip to Glenwillow, or North Canton? Hmmmmm, and I wasn't invited. I'll try to forgive!!

Anyways, email if you like but I love stories!!

Hope all is well. Looking forward to the next Minimeet.
The Celebrity IV Elite should be alive and kicking well by then. Joel and Mike seem to have the suction unit fixed, the motor got the works!! I found through another friend an original power nozzle for it, so once I recieve that and go through it, hopefully I can meet Joel and match the whole thing together. We'll have a Celebrity Celebration!!!

let me explain the photos for everyone.....the british hoover power plus and the hoover celebrity two vault canister were purchased from our own TOM GASKO...who is an absolutely kind ....accomodating and wonderful man....to have these two dream units from him made it all worth while......fred nelson king tarantula himself blessed me with the u4411 brown and white hoover convertible.....which had a brand new hoover beater barred agitator and beautiful top fill fabric bag assembly...those two new items alone made it worth the price minus the cleaner...i upgraded my new in the box u4363 with freds agitator and top fill bag and put the new bottom fill c bag unit on freds u4411 convertible which i now use in my showroom....the agitator may look rough that i installed but i did not want to wreck the beautiful new agitator on the mats with the rocks and salt....thus i put my agitator in the unit......i must thank both tom and fred for their generosity and fairness for what they charged me for these units to enable me to have them especially after sending my own collection to tti headquarters....its not what i used to have but it makes me feel good while i am repairing my customers units and gives the customers and john long something to enjoy when he visits.....i am honored to have a leg of tarantula arms in my front foyer....a gift from our chicago family at the center of our club

But what is going on with a Royal bag on the Hoover?

Royal

The Royal that John has pictured is a newer commercial upright manufactured by Royal (TTI). It appears that John G. just put a Hoover Emblem on the Royal Upright for kicks. It looks like the Legacy has a newer Hoover Commerical Elite bag on it as well.

Please see link below for more information on the Royal upright.

I'm seeing very similar to what Kenny sees!!

durango159's profile picture
John Gregory, It's look you took a Hoover Professional Series head and put a Royal Professional Series bag on it. Or you took the Royal Professional Series upright as pictured in Kenny's link, removed the Royal label sticker from the front hood and put the large Hoover logo on the front corner. Ok and on the picture on Royal's site the cord color going up the handle is black, yours is orange. Otherwise the cloth bags look exactly the same.

The Hoover Legacy, does clearly say: "Legacy" "Total System Performance 750" on the hood. The bag does look likes it off a Commercial Elite C1404 with the addition of a side mounted hose holder for automatic tool conversion.

Clueless!! Hah!!

durango159's profile picture
If Kenny and I were clueless then I guess we'd be related to all of the sellers on eBay and Craigslist who title their ads "Hoover canister vacume", and pictured in the ad is a Eureka Maxima bagless upright. That being said I don't think "Clueless" fits this scenario.

Now, since I can't enlarge your photo anymore than it is, and I can't enlarge the photo on Royal's website anymore and I can't find either of your machines elsewhere there's only so many observations I can make out. Your picture doesn't show handles, all I can relate to is bag design and hood cover. Can't tell what amperage the motors are, what agitators they have.

I know from being at your store that you have a Royal Lexon SR30020 canister and put a large Hoover logo on that machine. So with that said I know you've done similar tricks to these machines just to fool us!! As example you may have put that Large Hoover logo on the Hoover Guardsman style commercial upright. I can see that it does have the LED headlight. I think also from the metal tab under the front bumper that it has a metal base plate.

My estimate is that the Legacy 12" upright has 48414081 double brushed agitator as is what you put into my Hoover PowerMax Supreme canister S3530. I know Hoover is phasing out the Hoover Elite style hood. So perhaps they are bringing back this Legacy/ Dimension style upright hood in a Commercial vacuum capacity and you are using this machine as an example of that. If this is the exact hood that they would use, it is very nice to see that it has the headlight. The former Elite style commercial upright series vacs did not have a headlight, and on many Commercial Elites, the side hose attachment hookup was a belt storage area. On this one you actually have a hose hooked in and it is automatic tool conversion once you slide the height adjustment lever over to block suction from going to the agitator. Like the Elite C1404 it is a Hoover Type A bag with side access zipper. I'm sure if I looked at the bottom of the plastic support housing for the bag, that there are still vent holes in the bottom corner. I wish that bottom bag housing support was solid so that all air was forced to exit through the cloth bag for added filtration. The Hoover logo is very small on the hood. But the logo and name "Hoover" name are both there. This looks like a residential years old but excellent condition Hoover Legacy hood with Commercial duty handle equipped with long, heavy gauge commercial cord and Hoover's C1404 style bag with a side mounted hose holder.

The direct air Hoover Decade 800/ Guardsman style/ Royal Professional probably has the white bristled single row brush roll that you put into my Hoover Decade 80 U4159. The Royal bag also appears to fit Hoover HEPA A bags. The on/off switch is a metal button very similar to a Sanitaire and is positioned like a Sanitaire on the rear of the hood. In contrast, the Royal Professional Series power switch is positioned like Commercial style Guardsmans from years ago with it being on top of the handle yolk with extra large plastic pedal. Large Hoover logo on hood. Hoover reduced this to a small logo on many Convertibles.

I am a little puzzled about the height adjustment window on the Royal/ Hoover Professional Series. It has 2 heights listed in bold white print. The top position which on Decade 800 uprights would state: "LOW", almost appears to say "SHAG" in the picture, as if its reversed? Are there only 2 heights listed in bold and 2 other heights in a different shade, or is this commercial machine only a 2 height adjustment?

There is a Hoover commercial non headlight equipped upright with orange hood on top of the Max Extract carpet washer box. Years ago Hoover commercial duty machines were orange in color, perhaps they are switching back to that.

I also notice from the picture that you're at work in sweat pants!

John -- I don't appreciate the language used... please don't belittle other members or make threats.  "cracking skulls" ... really?

One thing I noticed about the Royal upright with the Hoover logo on the hood -- it has a square handle.  I really don't keep up with much of the newest products offered by TTI... but I do believe that all of the "Guardsman" machines are still manufactured with a two-piece round handle. The only machine that still has a one piece square handle is the Conquest.

Interesting Fred!

durango159's profile picture
I did see that the handle was rectanglular but didn't think anything of it. I for one like the rounded handle. As John informed me last time, the round handle was created by Richard Dreyfuss. Both are comfortable I think I prefer the round handles with out rubber grip.

Fred is correct about the round handle being on Commercial Guardsman and its also on the Royal, I just went to Hoover and Royal websites to see. So this is definitely a strange mixed up machine. Orange logoed Royal HEPA bag, Hoover Guardsman hood with metal base plate, rectangular 1 piece handle and toe operated "Sanitaire" style power switch. LED headlight and my confusion on the height adjustment.

fred a crack to the head is not bag language just a figure of speech....maybe where you come from and i said head not skulls thats your words not mine thank you very much.....as for our members one of which frequents my store that expression relates to one of his visits and is between us....as for the mystery hoover and it is a hoover ......not a royal though i put the bag on it just to get everyone wondering ..........is a new upright i am creating and i wanted to see how hoover enthusiasts would take to it ......i would say its controversial but when you see it in its whole form then it really will take shape......as for you fred not keeping up with more current hoover products you are not missing that much for now...i cannot vouch for whats to come .....its incredible.....i assure you...

I have feedback for Hoover for more Power nozzle canisters!

durango159's profile picture
I want to see more power head bagged canisters. I want something that looks, cleans and sounds like a Hoover. A Duros is a not a True Hoover in my mind. The Anniversary Windtunnel is ok, but the suction unit has a very different tone from previous Hoover canisters. The hose on the Anniversary Windtunnel is terrible-- not very flexible and I actually find the hand grip uncomfortable for vacuuming with the power nozzle. The old style PowerMax/ Windtunnel hose was comfortable and on/off agitator button was perfectly positioned. Also the material was terrific-- lightweight, flexible and durable. The problem with that hose was the attachment lock-- it was never designed right. On a new PowerMax/ Windtunnel hose, it was very hard to slide the lock over to lock in wands and attachments. After a few years of use, the lock became worn and eventually it opens up on its own. In contrast the hand turn lock on Futura, Dimension 1000, Celebrity and Spirit hoses was phenomenal. Very easy to use, never had a problem with it locking and unlocking and holding the tools in place successfully without opening on its own.

There are people upset with Hoover because they don't have a canister vac with on/off switch for entire unit on handle, as used to be on several deluxe models of Windtunnel and PowerMax. There are people upset with Hoover because the attachment set is not what it used to be. The crevice tool on the S3670 Anniv. Windtunnel canister is quite short and not wide enough. The reason its not wide enough is because it makes that extra obnoxious hissing sound when using it. Compare noises of crevice tool in use with former Windtunnel canister and newer Windtunnel canister, it doesn't matter what suction level the new one is set to, that crevice tool sounds awful. The combo upholstery/ dusting tool is cheap. Yes Riccar has one but many of their machines come with several attachments. Go back to an upholstery nozzle similar in style and shape to the former version with rubber fingers. That shape was much easier to use on steps, sofas, etc. Try using the S3670 upholstery nozze on a sofa-- you'll hate it, the elongated design for that doesn't work. The dusting brush designed that elongated way isn't too bad! The bare floor brush is awkward and doesn't clean as good. First off save your costs and get rid of the 2 side wheels, they're useless. A bare floor brush should just be brush, no wheels. Secondly save costs again and shorten all the bristles so the head is closer to the floor making it lower profile and allowing suction to pickup heavier objects like small stones.

Headlight is a must-- but keep suction duct sealed-- do not have rubber spokes from headlight extending down into suction duct. It would be nice if Hoover incorporated a manual pedal operated height adjuster into their bagged canister power teams. Keep the suction duct extending around the belt, that's a must. Rubber coated wheels. Square off wheel axle ends on power nozzles. The wheels should turn but not the axles that's part of why all the Windutnnel PowerMax heads squeak so bad.

I've been vacuuming with Hoover canisters for over 20 years. My parents and I have owned and used extensively the Celebrity II Elite, Dimension 1000, TurboPower 5000, several PowerMax's, Windtunnel S3630, Windtunnel Plus S3639, Windtunnel Anniversary S3670. This is my feedback, I don't want to switch to another brand of canister vac.
