Hello everyone.

Been a long time since I've posted on here, but I have recently obtained a 560. It's in fantastic condition inside and out, the only thing that isn't just so is that it has had a later style replacement brushroll with 2 strips of brushes rather than 1 brush and one plastic beater.

Having scoured the net I cannot find an original brushroll anywhere.

Does anyone on here have one they would be willing to sell me? I would really appreciate it as I like to keep my vacs as original as possible!

Also, does anyone know how to date these machines?

I don't know anything about your vacuum but can you post pictures

I had that with my 502S when I got it but luckily I managed to procure a 502 which had a bad motor so I used the brush roll from that.

As for dating it, you can use the serial number I believe using the first number for the year and the next two for the week it was made (I.E. "13" would be the first week in March).

 Going by those date codes my 560 was made in the 13th week of 1985 and my 612 in the 48th week of 1987. Now just to date my Mum's Contour varipower (I think 1994) and I've got all my luxes dated! I shall pop to the vac shop tomorrow and see if he has an older style brush roll knocking around!

There are brand new brushrolls for these cleaners still available on the internet but they may not be original Electrolux types. I cannot recall when Electrolux stopped using beater bars on the 500 range. I am not sure they even did then for those cleaners with the rollers like the one fitted to the Electrolux 560.

Jamie, where did you hear that about the Electrolux serial number being used in this way? I've not heard that before.

Also, if the first number is the year and the next two the week of the year it was built, then the first week of March would be 09 as the beginning of March in 9 weeks into a year. 13 weeks would be the last week of March.

The beater brushroll was probably superseded.

I had a 1986 Electrolux 550, in battleship grey. The brushroll was plastic; two halves of a cylinder riveted together. It took two long brush strips and two small brush strips. The bearings were sealed, smooth action bearings.

I once saw an earlier machine (was it a 170?). It had a different style of brushroll with sleeve bearings.
