I had a dr's appt today in Avon, In. So I stopped by the thrift shop and low and behold I found this Hyla GST Canister.

This is the first one I have got to play with! It was only $9.99!!! They thought that the bag and filters were missing. Not knowing it was water tech.

I have a Hyla machine like that---came from the local Rainbow dealer-was traded in towards a Rainbow.I think the Rainbows are better quality than the Hyla.

Hyla

I think a hyla is just as good as a Rainbow. Hyla's don't have that silly hepa filter on the back which i hate and is point less . Just saying .

Today's thrift store find! Hyla GST

Ben,
I checked the numbers on my Hyla and they are very close to the numbers on your Hyla. I just got mine last March. We had a Hyla dealer at Carmel so it makes sense that you would find one in the Indianapolis area.
I did a thread on the Forum after I got mine.
I have had no problems with my machine and the dealer was very nice when I bought the machine. I do like the Hyla but I agree with Rex-it is not as easy to use as the new Rainbow and there is not even a close comparison with the new design of the Rainbow power nozzle. The Rainbow wins hands down with the new dolly design, longer electric hose, electric wands and new power nozzle design.

Amazing find. I can't believe it. A thrift store?

Two things I wish I truly knew for a fact about this machine is if the separator is indeed self cleaning? I try to wonder to myself how can that be possible? I mean, when you're finished vacuuming, isn't the tank left full of dirt? There's no clean water to wash the separator itself off. How can it stay clean? From the video I've seen, the separator does get wet.

And if these aren't built nearly as well as a Rainbow, why are they the same price as a new Rainbow? LOL

Today's thrift store find. Hyla GST!

Mark,
I have seen not evidence of dust on the exhaust of the machine. When you look at the separator real close I can see a MAYBE a small amount of dust on the separator.
Like the Rainbow ,there is NEVER any odor or nasty smell with the machine.

As a collector I am NOT a good person to answer the question as I take care of my machines.
Because it uses 2 times the amount of water,it is much more difficult to fill, carry or pull on thick carpets.
My Hyla is almost new and has had good care. Ask me 18 years down the road when it's been used every day like my old Rexair SE and dropped a few times!
I really have no complaints but my new Rainbow will out clean my thick carpets when it comes to removing sand.

After I picked up this Hyla I ran over to my fave Vacuum Store and had them look at it, he told me in all honesty that this one was the

first had had gotten to examine! He had never gotten one in to work on at anytime.

The manufacturing date on this Hyla is 03/06/11. It is a very nice running machine, quiet.    I listed it on ebay, I would prefer a new style rainbow myself too.

The Hyla I got had a bad "doggy" smell(probably the orig user didn't operate it right)And the tools were clogged with long dog hair. The water bin was stuffed with dog hair, too.Had to vacuum out all of the parts with the NSS M1-then change the bag in the M1.Next washed the parts-better now.and the power nozzle wand handle is broken-kinda flimsy design compared to the Rainbow. The Hyla did have a second seperate wand for the hard floor tool. The machine has a label on it that it was built in Croatia.Rainbows are made in the US.I don't know where a dealer is in NC to get a replacement wand handle for the power nozzle. The old one is held together with duct tape as the Rainbow place and I got it.The Rainbow dealer in Greenville even used the Hyla in some of their training. The Hyla is an interesting vacuum. And the Hyla I got does have a separate non powered hose for wet pickup.
