Hi:

I have a 1985 Kenmore canister vacuum model 116.2432680. I'm looking for a replacement motor - part number 700589. Sears parts direct says it is no longer available and I have been unsuccessful in locating an after market replacement.

I kno wthat today's kenmore canisters are rebranded Panisonics. DOes anyone know who was making kenmore canisters back in 1985?

This vacuum and I have been together for as long as I can remember, and I'm not willing to give up on her.

Any help you can provide would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks!

motor number 117923-23

I can order those motors from my supply company. The original motors out of the kenmores are not identical to Filter Queen and Tristar, Kenmore used a similiar motor with a larger field coil and taller armature. The larger motor also fits the old Miele canisters. A filter queen motor will work but isn't an identical replacement. Just the motor sells for about $150. From the model number you provided you don't have a relay in this canister. I believe your machine was made by Panasonic but there is a chance it was rebadged whirlpool also.

Found exact replacement motor

Based on hints from some of the members, I was able to locate the exact replacement motor for my kenmore model 116.2432680 canister vacuum. The exact replacement motor is an Ametek Lamb model 119347-00. I was able to order it from Grainger (their part number is 3EAK7).

I've attached a picture of the motor I received. Thanks to everyone for your comments an suggestions!

Tony
