do you think that there could be to much power going to the light and there needs to be a resister? i think it is called a resister, it limites the power going into something

You dont need a resistor, I will look on one of my headlight convertibles tomorrow afternoon and tell you exactly how its wired. I can tell you right now that one of the wires should not be on the carbon brush connection. Someone will probably help you sooner than I canm if not I will post my findings in the afternoon, after work. Good luck, dont give up yet!

As promised, the picture! THe first black lead wires into the white cap, the other connects into the field coil.

Thanks. I also found my old motor. It's exactly like urs. But I wondering do I solder the wiring to coil field?

soldering

Dont wire it directly to the field coil, in the picture there should be ports like the one the wiring goes into. Since all hoover motors would have been "universal" to accomodate a headlight assembly the field coil should have an opening where that wire would have gone.
