I am in need of a new brush roll for my Hoover Legacy, and I want to get the best. I've always been impressed with the genuine Hoover, but I have also heard some very good things about the CWP products. The CWP is also slightly cheaper, so I am leaning in that direction.

I'd...

Go for genuine, I found the bristles on the CPW to be too soft for my needs and dealing with pet hair on my carpet. Due to its shape it doesn't seem to me that it agitates as well as genuine. It would be perfect if you have delicate carpets however.

Conniption Fit!!!

Ok, I've been really struggling with this. I actually like the design of the CWP brushrolls. They look like good cleaners and the bearings don't need lubrication and I don't think as much dust would get inside them like the genuine Hoovers. However, the CWP brushrolls are about 1/8" too short. I've tried a 12" Elite, PowerMax style brushroll for my PowerMax Supreme canister. It is too short and was extremely difficult to install because it doesn't want to stay in place inside the nozzle.

Also tried a 15" Windtunnel CWP brushroll for our Widepath upright. It is also too small. Because of this approximate 1/8" a few things happen:
1) The brushrolls are very difficult to install as they don't stay in place and want to pop out with the tension of the belt.
2) They wobble in place side to side a little with machine running
3) Heavy accumulation of hair and dust in end caps.

I don't understand this at all. I learned that CWP is being used in Hoover produced machines. Is there a spacer I can buy to make these brushes fit. Is anyone else experiencing the problem that I am?

I've been working with agitator brushes and belts for over 15 years on my Hoovers. The Hoover nylon brushes wore quick and overtime some gained an extra rubbing sound from plastic end caps which I ended up polishing smooth the agitator ends or replacing end caps. However I never had a problem with the agitator installation and being able to stay in place. Why does CWP do this. I will have a serious Conniption Fit if the CWP ruins my Hoover PowerMax Power nozzle. I'm seriously worried about this, and I just spent $20 on this new CWP thing. Aaaahhhhhhhhh!

Just trying to supply facts and answer questions...

My name is Brian and I work for CWP. In the 18 years I have been with the company, the only time there was an overall length fit issue, was when the housing itself was completely worn out. Not to say it can not happen, but I am surprised to read that this has been your experience on more than one occuasion. We carry the Elite replacement, but we do NOT currently have a brushroll to be used on the Power Max.

Regarding bristle I am surprised to read that there is a difference between the OEM and our brush. We typically match the specification of the OEM. I'm wondering if Hoover made a change that we are not aware of.

For further questions or conversation I can be reached directly at 216-252-1190 x105 or on my cell phone 216-789-4149.

About 10 years ago, Hoover started manufacturing the PowerMax canisters with the Hoover Elite brush roll. They made the brushrolls universal which is why PowerMax canister agitators have grooves for the baseplate support bars of the uprights. You may notice on a PowerMax canister, there is only one support bar but the agitator has 3 support bar grooves. This is the universal agitator. Therefore the brush roll for the 12" Hoover Elite, also fits 12" uprights of Legacy, Elite, Runabout, Sprint, and Dimension. For canisters it fits 12" Futura and PowerMax canister powernozzles.

So technically if the CWP brush roll fits the Elite upright it should also fit the PowerMax and Futura canisters.

Shown below is Hoover PowerMax Deluxe canister vacuum model S3601 with genuine Hoover 12" Elite and otherwise brush roll.

I will be calling, thank you for the contact information.

The genuine Hoover Elite brushroll and the Powermax powerhead brushroll are one in the same.  The Hoover par number, at the time, was 48414081.  When I worked at Hoover, we used them interchangeably between the upright Elites and that style powerhead.  Not sure why the CWP version wouldn't work in one and not the other..?

Thanks for sharing the information. The Power Max brushroll I have been given to develop is Hoover OEM part number 4841013.

One thing us vacuum collectors have been waiting for is a generic Hoover Quadraflex brush roll. We're not sure if you just haven't gotten around to it or there is some legal issue, but either way I'd like to know if you know anything. I'll be the frist to order as I'm in need of two.

We didn't mean the brushrolls have a following, we meant that Fantoms have a following, but replacement brushrolls are almost impossible to find.

I second the manufacture of a generic replacement for the Quadraflex Powermatic power nozzle agitator. It seems like its only been a few years since Hoover discontinued the Quadraflex PowerMatic as they used it on Central vacuum systems for many years.

Is it true that Hoover doesn't even have replaceable brush strips for them as well? Does another manufacturers brush strip fit the slot?

sadly I don't have any canisters right now with a Quadraflex Powermatic but I its on my wish list. Preferably a Celebrity QS but I would take a Dimension 1000 or a Spectrum as well.

Here's a picture from Centralvacuumstores.com for the agitator picture on a Quadraflex PowerMatic

How about a Eureka (old style) PN with beater bars? I couldn't find anymore Eureka PN brush rolls with beater bars; but I think they were the best for a Eureka (or Compact, Rainbow, etc)

btw, I think the Hoover Quadraflex roller should continue to be manufactured.

CWP

I went to their website and was amazed by their product line, but I am baffled as to why they are PROUD of making stuff in China. I was thinking of using their brushrolls in my newer Hoover Convertibles, but if it means giving my money to China, I guess I will have to say no :-(
