Thanks!

Janine,

I cannot really help you, but, in the meantime, what is wrong with yours? Please tell us all about it in detail (bag, handle, cord, motor, etc., etc.) so that we can understand your situation better.

Thank you,

Ben Edge (KirbyClassicIII)

Hi Ben; Actually, the only Kirby I have presently is a 560 that is in satisfactory condition. I would like to find a 514/15 because I have always wished to add that to my vacuum cleaner family. Eventually I will want to fix up this machine once found....it is a favourite Kirby of mine. I have had to reduce the number of vacuums and these to "fabulous five-hundreds" are my two favourites. I would prefer a period appropriate bag (Kirby preferably) but might consider using an e-bay item which is a black replacement for these old machines...it would look a little like the charcoal bag on the 514 originally. I would really like to have a round female end cord set if available. I don't want to go older than this one because the swing-out stainless brush roll nozel is used in the 514. I appreciate your interest Ben.
Nina

Nina,

The #1525 brush roll actually began use in the model 513, and continued up through to the Dual Sanitronic 80. Before that, the brush roll was part #1482.

The 513 was also the first Kirby to use the step-type foot switch rather than the toggle switch that was also mounted on the same side of the motor facing your left foot (on the same side of the vacuum where the toe-touch height adjuster is), and in the middle of production, the first to use the 4.0 amp motor.

i have a kirby bag that i think goes to the 513. i dont know what the bag looks like on the 514. but i have the bag and i have an aftermarket gray cord with the round end. email me if you want it. you could just buy a restored 514 and put the bag and cord on it. or you could buy one that doesnt have the cord or bag.
please email me if you want it and i will put it on ebay for you

Hey Ben! Is there a chevron brush roll available for a Kirby 513?

What do you mean? Kirby recommends to use part #1525.

I have the #1482 brush roll, and I don't think it grooms the carpet very well. I also feel that it doesn't do a very good job picking up pet hair like the one on my Heritage II.

Sam,

Part #1482 is recommended for use on models 505 to 512 only. #1551 and #1525 are designed to be used on models 513 to DS80.
