Was there any rhyme or reason Hoover went from a spring holding the bag to the clip like in todays photo of the day? Then they went back to the spring.
Just wondering

ive noticed the holder on the 1060 holds the bag slightly away from the cleaner. bag doesnt brush up against the cord or handle as much. also no spring to get stretched. however the handle mounted latch seems to weaken the handle. my 1060 has hairline cracks around the cutout for the bag holder.

the bag latch

Hoover's bag latch was introduced on the model 66 mid-run in 1958 or 59. It was a way of streamlining the design and really offered no real benefit. The lesser models used the spring as a cost saver. Actually the latch weakend the handle and created "cracks" around the center of the handle. Many Convertible cleaners have had the upper portion of the handle replaced to convert it to a spring or replaced it with a new latch type handle. The latch was a feature on the top line Convertible until sometime in 1972 during the run of the yelow 1076.

I have a 1070 Convertible that the handle literally broke in half! I replaced it with a spring type handle and have had no trouble since. Anyone else out there have this happen?

Springs/Latches

Hey Tom

As you may or may not be aware the last models (other that the 912 etc) we had with the spring setup over here were the 1st version of the 1334 Junior and the 652 Deluxe/Senior.
The latch did change tho-the 1st version was a metal hook assy rivited onto the handle- The 2nd version was the same as on your 1330 and U4014 etc- the hook was plastic and installed with a pivot and spring inside the handle.

Cheers
Seamus
