Hi

I've always been a bit of a vacuum enthusiast and recently been finding out all about the history of vacuum cleaners. I remembered seeing a program about some of the inventions of the 1950's a few years back and one of the items featured was a hoover constellation. Just recently I was on wikipedia and reading about this model when I discovered that a new model was launched in 2006 but the discontinued in 2009. I never saw one for sale in Argos or any of the electrical shops and I really want one! Unfortunately it seems they didn't catch on and were sold off very cheaply in the end. I wonder if this was maybe due to lack of advertising and publicity? I've been keeping my eye on ebay and some of the free ad websites but the maytag satellite seems incredibly rare and although i've seen a couple on the USA ebay I don't suppose it would be practical to get one shipped over from the states. Does anyone know where I might be able to get hold of one? Maybe i'm looking in the wrong places. I'm from the UK but living in Dublin at the moment so would be looking to purchase one in the UK or Ireland...anyway it's a long shot but if anyone can point me in the right direction i'd be most grateful!

Kieran

They do show up on ebay reasonably often, its just a matter of patience I am afraid. And there are lots of good examples of the original model around too.

The Satellite was not a bad cleaner but it was expensive (I bought one new for £160 - that will teach me to impluse buy in Harrods) and distinctly lacked features compared ot other cleaners of similar or even less price. With some updating it might have been more successful but no matter what people say the "retro" market is relativly small at least at that price level to justify the high price.

Wow Ryan that is a beautiful Constellation!

I would offer you something for it, but my wallet is hardly bursting at the seams just now.

Oh well, I can drool over a picture I suppose!

I've never been a fan of the re-runs myself, if you want vintage, buy the old stuff!

you'd have to fight my bf for it lol he's pretty much got all the swedish green 60s hoovers now and they're his pride and joy

The Maytag is a nice one to have, I think they're going to be very collectable one day

That is a good point Ryan, they are certainly rarer than the Connies which ran for years and years.

Still, I know what I'd rather have!

Oh I'd get that Constellation, don't you worry. I'd just hand over a few twenties and put on my wheezy American Mafia accent "you withhold that Hoover and the next meal you have will be suckin' through a straw".

A shame, though, to see Maytag where HOOVER should be. I have 2 of the new white ones, and 1 of the stainless steel ones.

Wow, thats a gorgeous cleaner, i'm soooo jealous...not having any luck finding one on ebay in UK/IRL or USA. I have found some websites that still do parts for the modern constellation/maytag machines but the one part no one seems to have is the skirt at the bottom...otherwise i'd have bought all the parts and built one...any ideas where else I could look to try and find one of these?

Here's a video I've uploaded on my YouTube channel showing the Maytag Satellite being demonstrated on QVC.
Naturally they don't have any left in stock as this was on a couple of years ago.

Don't forget to check out my other videos for more vacuum cleaner related stuff.

How did Maytag end up taking the new Connie over from Hoover, anyway?

Hi
Just bought this new unused Maytag Satellite from ebay "buy it now" for £69.00. Not recieved it yet, but am assured that the box has not been opened. This guy seems to have a "stash" of them. Some people bought loads of them when they came out and stored them away.
Hope it works!!!!

new maytag satellite

Hi Vacuumdevil
Just an update, there is a guy on YouTube that has bought a couple of new old stock of maytag satellites from this guy "valentinos" on ebay uk. He has sold loads of them, he must have found a warehouse full of them somewhere. He ships abroad but you would have to buy a converter to up your voltage from 110 to 210 to be able to use it in the USA. I bought a constellation 858 and purchased a converter from ebay for about £60, think they are cheaper in USA.
im just grateful this guy Valentinos has bought all this stock for us to enjoy. In the full knowledge they are new and unuesed. He tends to sell them one at a time.
Dont blame him. He has 100% feedback
Let us know if you buy one from him.

Regards
Leon

Wait a minute...

Before I mention a point about the Maytag Satellite, ryry_87, are you the guy who did a channel named U5096? I just saw your name and your link to a video! I could be wrong, just had to let that out.

Anyway, if I ever had a Maytag Satellite vacuum cleaner that would be great, however I would limit the amount of times I would use it due to its 2kW motor.

Seems like it's efficient! I can see this due to the stretch hose not being so stretchable. So many manufacturers look at power rather than efficiency, unlike Vorwerk. But anyway, as other people might know, you get limited time offers on eBay for this cleaner. It's the Constellation in the US, but in the UK for some reason it's under a different make AND model.

Sorry for the gossip at the beginning, just had to let that out. I really miss watching U5096.
