Those style of soft-cover elites are all over the place here. I would buy some if any of them had a complete set of attachments. Hoover changed the color of the attachments on the Elites too often, and I do not want replacements. I need to real deal; like I bought it new in the 90s.
Anyway that Sprint is very nice. The nice things about those models is that they were all soft-cover bags. Then I can see and feel the bag inflate! I prefer the hood they used on the box I posted. My parents had one of those when I was younger, plus they were the more deluxe models. There are two Elite models I'm after. The first is this gray Elite II one I saw a Goodwill two years ago. It said "Dual Purpose" on the bag. I really wish I had gotten it. The other is the original green Caddy Vac from 1999. Here's another brochure you should enjoy. It's an early Elite II with the same hood you posted. One thing I always enjoyed about these Hoover products pictures were the living rooms they used to take pictures in. My favorite shot is always the edge cleaning picture. I love the wooden baseboards! The rooms just looks so warm and inviting, just like a Hoover! I have no idea why I like it so much, but I do. If I ever get a house with baseboards like that, I will be taking lots of pictures! |

No, they all use the same motor. There were many variations of the motor as to how much electricity it drew. I lowest I know is 5amps, but they went all the way up to 12amps later in the run. The other thing is that the Dial-a-Matic was a bypass motor Hoover, but all the Elites were direct air. I also think the bases were the same across all the models. I've been able to switch out hoods and motors from models years apart perfectly.

I owned a Soft and & Light from 1992, and a Bagless from 2000 (my dad bought the Soft and Light back then, years before I was born). The Soft and Light died around 2006/2007, and the Bagless died around 2003. |

I noticed on the box for the sprint, it has the headlight cut out, but no headlight. I wonder why they did that instead of just make it like the bottom of the Elite 200? |

when I said turbopower I was refering to these, I do realise they had a the American turbpowers which were basically a fancy elite, to be honest most American hoovers in the 90's were based on the elites, and sounded exactly the same? also they looked similar. I guss it was because the elites were good? and popular?

super-sweeper, would you mind posting some pictures of your TurboPower Hoovers? I'm not entirely sure which models you have. I know there was a plain Elite, Caddyvac, SoftGuard, Windtunnel and possibly a Bagless. They are the best looking black vacuums I have ever seen.
alexhoovers94, Just about all 90s Hoover uprights were some type of Elite. They were/are excellent vacuums. The side-in converter they used for the hose was very efficient. You can get some good suction from them if there is a new bag. I have many more Legacy scans if you want see them. |

PaulC - the electrical vac shop up Gorgie/just up from Haymarket station (cant remember the name of it) used to have a second hand red Hoover commercial upright based on the Legacy you refer to. I nearly bought it, not sure if they still have it as it's been a year since I was last in Edinburgh. They usually sell Sebo and loads of old Hoover tub refurbs.
As for the UK Hoover Turbopower - wasn't it called Hoover Sovereign in the U.S?
There is a separate archive thread on that model here: http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?11205 |

Ah, you mean Wallace's in Dalry? No that cleaner isn't there any more. He used to do quite a few recon machines ( I got an X1 in there 5yrs ago )but now concentrates on new Dyson's and Sebo's in the vacuum line, has also increased the line of washers and dryers he sells. He has the occasional recon Oreck in the window but am suprised he sells any cleaners as they are quite pricey.
I used to live just round the corner from that shop about 10yrs ago, he used to sell recon quite a few recon Juniors. We now live a bit further along in Gorgie at the back of Aldi and McDonalds in the flats with the green and cream exterior. |

The Elites never had a direct successor since the Elite was a direct air design and everything since is the bypass system. But both the Windtunnel and Elite were TOL machines at one point. So you could say the the "Windtunnels took over the Elites" The Windtunnel came out in 1997, but the last houshold Elite, model U5134900, was removed from Hoover's webpage in early 2005.

One is new out of box, and, I still have the box! A friend gave it to me, saying, "You have to have a fresh one". Some of mine are not in the 'collection', a they need some attention.
Last week, during my N. Canton pilgrimage, I was given black and white photos taken at their launch, by the art department at HOOVER. I almost died when they were placed in my hands! |

The Asian appliance shop folded, it is now a solicitors I think. There was also a great little shop on Old Dalkeith Road that specialised in vacuum repair and recon models, he has also now closed. The only other vacuum repair shops I know of in Edinburgh are the Hoover shop on Leith walk, a vacuum repair shop past Meadowbank near Jocks Lodge and a small vac shop just past Fountain Bridge Cinema complex. Sad to say not many people send their vacuums for a yearly service any more as they did when I was a child, when it breaks it gets junked and a new one bought.
Anyway, back to the thread!!! I like the look of the ELITE'S but the Legacy, to me, is a thing of beauty! I wish I had grabbed one when they were in Makro. BTW, please fee free to drop me an email anytime. PaulC |

Seeing those pics brought back lots of memories for me. My grandmother had the green Elite Supreme, and I can remember that box when she got it. I had a maroon Legacy with the onboard tools and hard bag cover as well. Both machines still worked when we sold them. I liked them, though I thought even the 7.5 amp machines were fairly loud. I didn't ever see a Legacy with that clear cover over the tool storage or a Legacy without onboard tools so those were interesting to see.
I see Elites often at the thrift stores, but nearly always missing the attachments and/or hose. |

Sorry it took so long to post this. This is the Hoover Legacy Supreme that was featured in the 1993 Hoover Advertisement commercial. I was lucky to find one with all of the attachments and in decent condition. I didn't bother making it look new because I actually use this a lot. It's definitely my favorite 'Elite' that I own.

They are pretty much the same, except they claim it has a 7.1 amp motor instead of the later 12 amp motor, & it has a long commercial cord.
Here is a video of a hard-body Commercial Elite with on-board tools from GoVacuum. They REALLY bashed the Elite in this video! Surprising they carry it if they hate it that much.... CLICK HERE TO GO TO kirbylux77's LINK |

Another Hoover Legacy. My grandmom owned the top post the blue Hoover Elite Supreme. She moved and the buyers want it, it's probably 18 years old. Could use a new agitator and the cord has a couple of Boo-Boo's with electrical tape but it works.
I refurbished this Hoover Legacy and sold it. Good machine. |

While this topic is still active, I want to say that even after my dad had done an extensive teardown and rebuild of his wife's 1994 Hoover Elite U4617-930, that it sounded as loud as it ever did. Because of that, I repeat my assertion that it is the bearings, and because they are not serviceable, the whole motor assembly must go.
Therefore, how much would a new motor assembly for this '94 U4617-930 be? From the HESCOInc.com website, it is part #43576142. My question is, are these motor assemblies 12 amps as opposed to the original 7.2 amp motor? ~Ben |

I have a temp position this week cleaning apartments for Merry Maids. They use Hoover Commercial soft bag Elites. Its very interesting that the bags are actually manufactured with a Merry Maids logo printed on the green cloth outer bags with zipper on the side. Only the power head states Hoover Commercial. Sorry I don't have any pictures at this time.

I find the Elites a little better than average noise for a fan first upright. Most fan first uprights are pretty loud. However they're much better in noise than Eureka Powerlines, Dirt Devils and many others!
One thing, the noise they make isn't really obnoxious with high pitch tones or anything. The tone is pleasant and maybe that's why I don't mind it too much. If you want quieter get a canister vac. Hoover Power nozzle motors just purrr so nicely. I could listen to a Hoover Power nozzle motor all day long, love them SOOOO MUCH!!!!! Hoover Windtunnel, Hoover PowerMax, Hoover Futura, Hoover Quadraflex Powermatic all just great sounding motors. |

Looking back at this now-revived thread, I never did post Elite pictures! One of the Turbo-powers is buried in a room taken by a "Vacuum avalanche", the other in a shed. All other turbo-powers accounted for. the bagless ones are in the attic. Elites on ground floor. I'll see if I can't get pictures, My youtube channel has been quite bare lately. |

Since when does the Habitat Restore have a Jewelry dept.? I have a problem with the fact that Hoover re-used names. "...a hoover sprint, ......the hoover runabout, encore supreme...." Those are all canister names. I have the later two, and a Tempo version of the Sprint. I don't know what Hoover was thinking. It's like they were desperate to come up with names or model numbers, so they just re-used stuff that was unrelated. |
