I'm hoping one of you help me figure this out. Is it true that the most current Rainbow canister model (the one with the re-designed power nozzle)has the same canister unit as one or two of the previous models? I'm looking to buy used and I was really really impressed with the high suction and the low noise level of their most current machine. I'm trying to determine if the motor in this canister is also the same as in the models also referred to as the 'Type 12', the 'Platinum' and the 'Blue'? I hope some of you Rainbow people can help me with this. I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who knows.

Confused about newer Rainbow

John,
I can only speak of my machine. Mine is the latest black model. My information tells me it has 11% quieter motor and 60% increase in the airflow with the new power nozzle design.
Big difference in the suction and airflow from my old Rainbow SE.
I have been told that the first E series one speed are loud but I have never used one so I cannot comment.
We have covered the numerous other improvemets on earlier Rainbow threads but for me the biggest difference is the new power nozzle, longer hose and electric wands along with the newly designed dolly.

Thanks William.

I remembered seeing the Rainbow video on Youtube from the 2010 convention in Austin and that machine seemed really really quiet, so I was just wondering if it had changed in the past 2 years. You're right about those first generation E series. I'm sure they're nice but not what I had in mind.

The 2 speed models are indeed quieter in part because of sound insulation foam that is now included in the top motor bay.  I'm guessing the new motor design itself also contributes to that.  In the Black series, is the water basin illuminated?

From what I understand the 1st generation one speed doesn't have a brushless motor and is loud. Then the next gold 2 speed brushless isn't as loud (the one I have), then the blue one (from what I understand) had the same exact brushless motor as the gold one prior to it, but had added insulation inside or something. As with the latest black one, I was under the impression that it was the same brushless motor, but different PN generating much more airflow than previous PN's due to its design. But perhaps they did make some changes to the latest motor, not sure. I thought the major change to the black wasn't the motor itself, but the quick disconnect hose, color, new PN,lighten basin, and adding rainjet. If someone knows for sure if the black motor was changed, let us know.

Thanks everyone. The issue is now a little less foggy than before. at least now I know the proper progression of models:
Gold 2 Speed---> Blue 2 Speed---> Black 2 Speed.
For some reason the blue and the black models seem to have more suction and to be quieter. I saw the Gold a few years ago at a trade show and the others seem to be totally different.

I think the unit motor has the same power only unless I'm wrong. like u guys said the gold series no insulation, blue and newest model have insulation and different computer housing.

Thanks Guys!

Joel, do you suppose the blue model and the newest one are more reliable? Rainbow doesn't strike me as one of those brands that arbitrarily changes things unless it's a drastic improvement.

I have no problems with my gold rainbow.

i say all rainbows are reliable. Oh yeah one thing the blue and newest model can use electrical hose for wet pick up. I had to get wet pick up handle parts in order to use the aquamate3.

Yea. I sold my electric hose that came with my Rainbow on Ebay and bought the brand new electric hose approved for wet pickup. The day I put the hose on Ebay it sold within a few hours.

Too bad I can't use the SE electrified hose for wet pickup. Or can I if I can put the new style handle?
