Commercial Vacuums |
[Down to Last] | ![]() |

![]() Right so this is my first post on here so if I do anything wrong, don't shout at me! well, i've got a big thing for commercial vacuums, mainly because I spent a lot of my childhood in commercial environments lol I love the simplicity, durability and their ease of use. Theres not many domestic cleaners that i've got on well with over the years and almost always go back to using a commercial vacuum of some sort. So I was wondering, is there anyone else who uses a commercial vacuum in a domestic setting? or is there anyone who runs a cleaning company etc that has experience with them? what are your thoughts?
I'll start, these are my dailys. First is the Ensign Stealth 1 which is essentially a rebadged Sebo X1 made by the cleaning supply company Johnson Diversey, Second is my Kerstar KV15/1 (for my hardfloors etc) and third is my Hoover u7008 that I use for doing the communal carpets in the hallway outside my flat.

![]() HI Ryan
Really like you Kenstar , I like that style of tub type vacuums, I also have the hoover U7008, I used to have 24 of them but they were sold to a guy who cleans a college here. he flat out refuses to use any other type of vacuum, he traded almost new sebo 370's and numatics for them. he brings them into my shop twice a year for a service and belt change.
Nice to have you here

![]() thanks, I can't praise the U7008 enough, it weighs a ton but they're just brilliant and when parts need replacing they're easy to work on. What more could you want in a commercial vacuum lol the Kerstar is a lovely old tub, probably the quietist vacuum I own. And the thing I love is the fact that Kerstar still make commercial vacuums to this day, they've been around for years

Very nice your commercial vacs are very nice looking machines. As for using commercial vacuums in house i do have a Windsor Versamatic i was using earlier today, i suppose the Lindhaus healthcare pro could be considered commercial, i've also got a Sanitaire.

That Victor brings home a memory or two. I used to have some old, well-used examples of these in storage. Not sure if they worked or not, and it was rare I needed a part off one. I had them under the Victor, Nilco, and Electrolux brands.

![]() LOVE that victor upright! I know there was definitely an Electrolux badged one and possibly a Goblin one too called the Dogsbody? But I might be wrong. I remember seeing a US Hoover Commercial similar to the guardsman but in red and a kind of brushed steel with a head lamp on the front, that was a gorgeous looking machine. I rarely use the u7008 in my flat purely because it's just too big, but it does a great job of the communal hallway carpets, I love the sound of the sand and grit hitting the dirt chamber lol The Kerstar is a lovely machine, so well built and reliable and funilly enough it has a Hepa filter under the chrome grille on top so filtration is great too.

That Sebo reminds me of the retro phones sold on ebay pretending to be GPO replicas with the Union Flag slapped on them, except they're american design phones (based on the Western Electric 500 shape) and made in china.... :\

"that number... Shape" "Dial" is the word... :P It's like dialling on a rotary phone, only you're pressing the buttons, not turning the fingerwheel... Plus I've had a couple of those cheap chinese phones, they're pathetic, wouldn't bother with them, especially as you can buy the real thing cheaper than the knockoffs... :P

![]() Well, I've got a Wild and Wolf TRIM phone that I've owned for nearly 2 years. I bought it for a reminiscent tribute phone to my late Dad who loved the originals. Infact when I was growing up, we had three originals in the home - two dark blue ones and a horrible plastic-covered dark green one. The whole design really appealed to me and it still does. I've had no problem with the phone. It made well be Chinese made but it's good to see it's available again as the original one just did what it is supposed to do.
I can't see how it is possible to get the original ones though unless you seek out the rare original push button types - surely with the digital phone lines, pulse dialling isn't available anymore?

Made in China ![]() What most people do not realise is that made in china does not always mean cheap junk. Yes there are factory's that do turn out rubbish but there are other ones that don't.
It totally depends on what the odering company wants. There is a company called KingClean in china, they build many vacuums for many different company's. what is hard.
Im not going to mention names but two competing company's medium budget vacuums come out of this factory, the one you would be hard pressed to find were it was manufactured, the plastic is good quality, it feels strong, the hose has a silcone feel to it nicely finished and good quality machine. The other machine is terrible , hard brittle plastic , rough edges, the hose is made from such poor quality plastic that if you bend it far enough it splits, nothing fits together properly every thing feels loose. yet these two machines are made in the same factory. Its what the designers and more so accountants want

I said before that I thought there was nothing to stop China making good quality products if that was what the company purchasing them asked for, but no, others knew best. Thank you Gary for writing this.

You can still tap out a number using the button under the handset, if you have a non cordless phone which is connected to a BT line.

No, I didn't mean that. I mean the reason why anyone would want to 'tap' out a number on the top of a phone instead of using the dial on the front of it. It was to by-pass the lock on a telephone which they should never have been using in the first place.

benny...![]() I remember a few years back working at Gatwick airport, there was a cleaner who used to clean the ticket desks every night and he always had a Vorwerk VK117 with him, he said it was perfect for the job because it was quite confined behind the desks. He said at the time that it was about 25 years old and he'd had it since new. great little machines. It was a badged as a Jeyes Hygiene rather than a Vorwerk though

![]() 136
Same as the 135 but has the newer eb360 carpet nozzle and has a more liver green colour., Not my favourite of the vorwerks , I prefer the 122, the 130 131,135,136 are very heavy for a vorwerk and as a result the cleaner head neck joint breaks with ease. 140 much better and lighter but if i were to use one in my house the 122 would be it.
Ryry audi 200 , is it the turbo, nice cars I had a 1990 version very costly to maintain though :)

![]() Yes but the problem is Jamie, the 1997 models were all used by learner schools, most have been abused and the "cheaper' ones with better warranties are the Mazda 121. I looked at that model when I was changing up from my old Mk2. The next Fiesta up from that is a lot safer, more comfortable and as economical.
I'm not sure about the current version though - for the size I may as well change up to a Focus.

![]() Like Gareth says, I HATE small cars. I bought a Toyota Aygo and Fiesta Zetec S, both brand new. Didn't get on with them. Give me a big gas guzzler anyday. I love my old 800, it cost me £600 with tax and mot, has leather, digital climate control, electric everything, heated seats, 4 speed auto, memory seats etc etc. I've covered around 20k in it in just under 2 years and its been a 100% reliable. I love it to bits. Prior to that I had a 620Ti which was just as good.

![]() I'm sure I can think of a few guesses as to what she said about them!
Just today we were out and a blue Citroén Saxo (it could only be that though, eh ?) which was almost scraping the ground, had those inane bumpers that protruded from the sides and the tyres were so "low profile" that they probably only held 1 PSI at the maximum flew past. Well, sped to be specific. If it did fly I may have shown some interest. As I expected, at the wheel was a lad who looked just out of short trousers, with sun glasses on (it was raining) and listening to "boom boom" music, as I call it. Needless to say I was glad to be in the Ford Fiesta with Roy Orbison in the cassette player. The youth of today, it never ceases to amaze me. I may be 16 myself, but I have very different views to most people my age.

![]() My 800 is lowered slightly and certain speed humps can be a problem. I didn't do it to look chavy though, I did it too improve the handling, it's been stiffened up all round. And also the fact that with the standard suspension the nose pointed up in the air, especially under acceleration
But no I don't use my fog lights unless its foggy or visibility is poor. It's actually illegal to do so when visibility isn't poor and that would a bit hypocritical in my line of work ;)

![]() "I'd rather drink the dirty water out of a Rainbow vacuum's basin... :P" Oh please, I'm drinking my tea... If I were using the Tesco Value Tea Bags I could always joke that the water from your Rainbow would taste better, but I'm actually drinking very good Typhoo...
When I do drink, which I rarely do, it is a nice glass of red or white wine. Cheap stuff, of course, but good all the same. You'll know when I am drinking, because I'll be even more witty than usual, which is like breaking the speed of light, but it is possible :) I'm so modest, don't you think ?

Did you know that using floor machinery and talking on your phone is one of the biggest causes of collisions in the home. People just don't concentrate enough when vacuuming these days! And it's us that have to pick up the peices when someone totals their vacuum on a peice of furniture or accidentally wipes out the cat. Drunk vacuuming is no better, i might start a christmas campaign every year against it. Say NO to drunk vacuuming!

![]() Hi all, I love the Sebo upright cleaners, i have several from the earliest to the most recent. The one I prefer for daily use in my flat is the Sebo/sorma TM 375, it's excellent, it cleans quickly and beautifully and filters the air pretty well; it's an "idiot proof " vacuum cleaner, self adjusting and self controlling; hose and wand for qick edge cleaning or upholstery cleaning are very easy to reach and use.Following are some pictures!

![]() Hello, thank you very much!
Yes the huge beast in the background is an Advance Carpetwin 200, never seen it working, It was just gifted to me and it seems to need a little bit of restoration. In my collection it takes the right place as a great example of large surface upright cleaner before the introduction of Sebos uprights, as well as the full sized Taski and Columbus uprights! Yes I like Lindhaus vacuum cleanersand know Lindhaus owners in Padova, Italy. They manufacture great appliances and take much care of technological improvements without loosing simplicity and ease in use. The Taski Tapitronic was the ONLY commercial clean air upright with using a by-bass motor (cooling fan separated from vacuuming fan), recently given up for exceptionally made motors in order to match the HEPA certification. I also have a nice Hako upright cleaner in red/black, just like a Lindhaus in a different colour. Another thing that I like very much, going back to Sebo, is the use of their power nozzles for MANY other brands of commercial upright cleaners. For example Electrolux in Europe has often used Sebo pns for commercial canisters like the UZ 930, one of my favorites! Could write for an hour so I quit, Kisses, T

![]() ahhaha ! havy for sure! but very well made! I'll post better and more detailed pictures soon, but the electrified hose is great and has a powe switch on top, it's the style of German/ swedish electrolux of that time. However the vacuum has incredible suction and a wonderful hepa type bag, plus a a huge hospital grade filter and a hepa filter system is availble( now at nilfisk Advance)I'll s one of the most abused Electrolux designs ever!!!!!Copied by Anybody!!!! Surely not goood for households, I remember seeing some of them un my house in the eighties...but that was not household....Tommy

Morphy Richards did a copy of it about 5 years ago and they sold for some utterly stupid price like £40. They were fabulous value for money, and though not as robust as the Electrolux original, they were equally as bulky. Incidentlally, the hose on this cleaner is also the same as the ones used on UK models too for a good deal of years.

The Morphy Richards, I don't think they were available in the UK for all that long for some reason. I should point out that in my message where I said the hose end was the same as the UK Electrolux cleaners, what I meant was the hose on your Electrolux with PN was the same, not the Morphy Richards hose.

What a beast!![]() My elementary school had an Advantage like the one pictured. If I remember correctly, it was surprising quiet! Of course it was in nasty condition. In my experience, very few janitors maintain their equipment.
One of janitors actually let me use it and help him clean classrooms after school. A parent donated a plastic based Hoover Convertible and of course, I started using that.

![]() oHello Guys today I received the Sebo/Tennant i purchased on ebay. I found it extremely dirti and I was a little bit sick obout it. but after a little cleaning it seems to be in good shape and it works nicely. I'm impressed by the difference in suction ( and noise) compared to my SOrma 375. 1100 watts vs 900 watts. Think I have to buy a new filters. At the moment I 've just washed them very well,
Pictures coming! pre and after and with the Sorma

![]() I used to collect Numatics, had loads at one stage. The Numatic factory is in Chard now in the west of england. I'd still say that Numatic's are by far the most popular commercial vacuums in this country, they're everywhere. We still get metal buckets though, but the option of plastic ones is there to I think lol The NV250 and 350 are almost unchanged from their 1976 design. They're not cheap though
Mike that carpet cleaner is an real old one, pre 1990.

![]() Absolutely love the Volta Markus, would love to see a youtube video of this one ;) that style of vacuum has been sold here in the UK under many different names. I've seen Morphy Richards, Karcher and Wolf. Heres a picture of my Morphy Richards Bulldog...

Hoover U7008![]() Been using My Hoover U7008 commercial today, Can't get enough of this one, its just so good. It Just goes to show you don't need massive wattage and cyclones for it to be a really effective cleaner. It's a bit big and heavy to use everyday but I drag it out when I want to give the carpets a really thorough clean.
Taking on a project U7008 for my mate soon, needs a new handle and fan and a hell of a lot of tlc, its been in a garage for years but looking forward to reviving it!

![]() I have to say that this cleaner mght be heavy and bulky in an average even large home and on medium-high pile carpeting but I had the chanche to use it on a low pile commercial carpet in a very large office and it was so easy to manuver around furniture and so quiet...with better filtration it would have been a perfect cleaner!
