What belt fits a Hoover 541? I just got my machine cleaned up and didn't realize that a Hoover 44783 is too short.

Thanks!

The belt you're trying may not be too short, as when I put a new belt (Genuine HOOVER) on my HOOVER Ranger it is damn tight and takes me over 10 minutes to prize it on without breaking my thumbs. After just one use it stretches to the right tension.

STOP telling people

TO USE RANGER CONVERTIBLE BELTS FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!....THAT IS NOT A ONE SIZE FITS ALL!!!!!

now, to the original poster. a well WORN convertible belt will do. or a eureka RD belt. that does use a larger belt than the belt ur using..

Hoover belt

An outburst like that can also give good information to keep a vintage motor running well and a Hoover beating, sweeping and cleaning as it should.I have heard of many collectors, some who use the 541 types often, using the Eureka belt.In my opinion no belt that is the proper size should take'10 minutes' to install.

Wasn't saying heshe was wrong, but getting into a flap over a ring of vulcanised rubber is just a bit over the top...

First off.....

THANK YOU rugsucker!!!..=).....

second off, I really think its point of preference. Since those belts are no longer made for those machines. I was told about the stretched convertible belt, when i had gotten my model 700. When i got my 541 I used the Eureka belt. I like the worn convertible belt on a pre war Hoover with the slightly better ball berring motor (aka the 700, 725,750,800 etc....), because it seems to have slightly more traction than a Eureka belt. But yet I used a Eureka belt on a Hoover 305, and I thought it fit well. so I think like I said...its preference...

and just for

the record........you were, and every time i say these things im shot out of a tree..

u got to remember. I may not know everything....but I shure as hell know the basics. and what you don't realize is some motors that are delicate enough that they cant take the tension of a overly tight belt...in time it WILL screw up your motor. ive been trying to tell you guys that for ages but its desnt deem to sink in. I don't really give a flying fig what you do with your machines. but when new members come on here and ask questions, you shouldn't be giving them wrong info. let someone with the correct info step in.....how would you feel if someone gave you information on something like that. and you did it, and it harmed your machine due to the info that was given????.....

Let's just say, I prefer to follow advice from a friend of mine who knows more about electric motors (who isn't on this forum), seeing how they build them for a living, than someone who dresses up like widow twankey, mmmkay? ;)

And proper, genuine advice, use Hoover belt number 49258, it's a soft-rubber commercial belt that fits and works in the older models like the one mentioned in this thread...

"TO USE RANGER CONVERTIBLE BELTS FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!....THAT IS NOT A ONE SIZE FITS ALL!!!!!" I never said it was and I certainly didn't suggest using a Ranger belt for the job.

If you actually read what I said you'd see I was simply giving an example of how belts can be tight initially, NOT SUGGESTING HE USED A RANGER BELT.

Sheesh.

That remark was completely uncalled for and out of order, what Jason chooses to do outside of this site is entirely his own business and not for anyone on here to comment on. Nor has it anything to do with the validity or otherwise of what he has posted.

In off-topic and sometimes in the members only forums there are sometimes threads posted about the intolerence of others, we need to remember to practice tolerence amongst ourselves.

And by the way, the fitting of a belt so tight that it can take 10 minutes to get on is hardly going to do a machine that is getting on for 80 years old any good at all - Jamie, no matter your intention, your reply can be read as implying that it is in order to force a new belt on and then run the machine and all will be well.

Tolerance towards others is one thing, but patience towards others is another, being told complete rubbish about one thing used on a vac not being right because it'll destroy something (without proof I might add) when there are more people in the real world who actually know a thing or two about the parts (with spec. sheets and data on parts involved) that will apparently be damaged when the tolerances of the parts are not actually being exceeded is what is testing my patience...

Like the Hoover belts in a Sanitaire or Eureka thing recently, would you believe me when I say the same damned bearings are fitted to Royal metal uprights which have tighter flat belts that apply much more pressure onto the bearings without harm? Cos it's true, deny it all you want, but unless you have the proof to back up your claims, then don't get in a hissy fit flap with me using capital letters acting like a 7 year old kid, all over a flipping rubber belt, otherwise my patience leaves the building...

"Jamie, no matter your intention, your reply can be read as implying that it is in order to force a new belt on and then run the machine and all will be well." Well to me it sounds fine and I have no problem with you accusing me of sophism in the manner you did, but the way Jason did it (with capital letters) was very childish.

Sometimes you'd think this was a forum for children.

Actually...

They are still available for the older model Hoover uprights. If you don't want to use a Eureka style RD belt.I sometimes find the Eureka RD style gets loose rather quickly on my older Hoovers, but that's just me. Here's the link, hope this helps!
