I was using my newly restored eureka upright with the pancake style 5.5 amp motor and after vacuuming for about five minutes I felt the metal motor cover and it felt quite warm almost hot. Do these motors run hot? everything sounds normal and also does the dial a nap suppose to click at every adjustment spot?.This machine has a viba groomer 1 with new brush strips and turns smoothly,I also installed a new belt that fits tightly.

Headlight bulb?

Perhaps the culprit is the headlight?

I found the problem

The metal motor cover was rubbing against the motor shaft. It sticks up just above the bearing just enough to be rubbing even though the cover rests on tabs on the base.As i mentioned earlier i installed a 5.5 amp motor in the place of the 3.8 amp.I will try installing some shims to sightly raise the cover.
