Could anyone on this board explain to me the evolutionary changes Royal had made to its vast catalog of metal uprights?

For example: Around 1990 or 1991 (I think it was 1991), they changed the revolving brush rolls from having square ends to having hex ends. My 1988 Stark Deluxe 5000NA (Royal 889) upright has the old-style #88221 brush roll with the square ends.

Another: By early 1985, they changed the fan case housing from an all-rounded case to a partially-angular fan case housing.
