I have the 1957 version of a automatic e and there is a recepticle for a power nozzle on it. I have never understood that as that machine never had that option. This was my great grandmothers lux and it never had a power head that i remember. Can anyone tell me why this machine has the plug?

Well, evidently at some point, this machine had the PN plug installed. Either when it was manufactured, or at some point later on in its life.
Many machines back then were sold with just the basic attachments, as the PN was considered "Optional Equipment", and sold seperatly. Even if the PN plug was already there.
If the Electrolux was originally manufactured without a PN plug, and the owner wanted to add a PN later, the salesman would wire the machine with the PN plug, right there in the homeowners livingroom,,and then sell them the PN, and hose cord and straps. Or a new hose with the straps already attached.

In the mid 1960s, when she had wall to wall carpet first installed, My Grandma had a PN plug added to her Lux Model E several yrs after first buying the machine.
The Salesman sold her a PN 1, and installed the plug on her Model E, and added the cord and straps to her original hose, right there in her livingroom.

Wish i still had that Model E,(gave it to a friend yrs ago),its the only basic (NON Automatic) Model E ive ever seen WITH the PN plug.

Thats very interesting. Thanks for letting me know that. I don't ever remember a power head being with this vacuum. She bought it new and gave it to my grandma years later. I'm 35 and can say in my 30 plus years there has never been a power head on that machine. I'm sure your right, at some point she must of had one. I know when we cleaned out her house all that was with the machine was the original floor tool and wands, and the original hose which somehow was cut in half. We don't know how that happened. I wish i could find an original crevice tool, dusting brush and hose for it. It's a great machine. I bought a new hose for it but it's white and doesn't look all that great but gives you amazing suction. I use the machine at least a couple times a week. I primarily use my silverado as the daily driver.
