So this weekend, me and my friend drove all the way down from Yorkshire to Crawley for some vacuum related madness. Came back with a few treasures.
First up are 2 vacuums from my childhood that I have been after for a very long time. The Hitachi CV50D and the Panasonic Jetflo MC-660U. A friend of my Mums had the CV50D with all the tools when I was a kid. It was the only 1 I ever saw and I can still remember it like it was yesterday. This one is in need of a new cable, but that will be sorted over the next few weeks. The bumper has seen better days too. The Jetflo belonged to a lady on our street. Again, she had all the tools for hers, but she moved away when I was young. They look pretty awesome together - cream and brown 80's galore! |

Great haul there Chris, would love to see a seperate thread with pics all about the Hitachi, one of the best vacs of the 80`s IMHO, has everything you need , great suction, cord rewind, handle unlips for storage, beater groomer, switch off brush roll etc ... We sold them through Agri Electrics, thay had a load of b grades (ex catalogue returns - Buy Try or return) nothing wrong but scuff damage, we could get these with staff discount and a £10 trade in for £30--- bought 5 for the family, alas not are still around, could kick myself!!!
Would love to know what you think pitched against the panasonic?? Cheers, Mike |

Although the extention tube came high up the cleaner when stored, I am sure there was only one tube. It was designed so that the upholstery tool fitted onto it for storage purposes. In other words they economised the design. |

Well they look different from each other as the top one has ridges. If it didn't originally have two tubes, someone has located another from somewhere. As it stands, you could take your eye out pushing that cleaner around :) |

Jamie, the hose is original but the extension tube isn't. The one on mine was a spare I had that originally belonged to a Lux Twin Turbo. The U800 originally came with a single, slightly longer extension tube and the upholstery tool sat on top of it.
Incidentally, I went 350 miles to get all these lol |

The Philips hose end on this cleaner was 35mm diameter, and the Electrolux would have been 32mm, so how does it fit? |

Actually, on second thoughts, I don't think the hose on my U800 is original.
Although it looks similar to the original (as seen on Chris's U800), the bottom section of the hose which connects into the floor head has a kink in it when put in the upright position - Something a hose wouldn't do if it were designed for that specific cleaner. |
