I am needing a new bare floor tool, We have just about worn ours down to nothing... The one that we have been using came with a rainbow i bought off eBay some years ago, sometimes i think it pushes the dirt rather than sucking it up.... My question is what do you guys think the best floor tools are? I have been considering getting a new original Electrolux one but didn't know how well they work

The Electrolux tool...

is excellent. I like the Lindhaus "Bernoulli" tool, so named after the man who discovered the principles that allow heavier-than-air flight.

The best bare floor tool is the one Hoover provided on all their Dimension and Futura canisters. There is a single brush strip down the centre of the brush which allows the suction to pick up dirt on the backward stroke as well as the forward stroke. It is similar to the Sears Kenmore single strip bare floor brush, but the Hoover version has a better neck on it for better manouevrability.

You can get a version that does not have the pin if you need to use it with simple plastic Hoover wands. And you would need an adapter if you want to use it on non-Hoover wands and hoses.

Here's a website that shows the exact brush:

This tool...

looks excellent. The side bristles give it stability so it will remain level on the floor. The 9" width will focus the airflow for better cleaning on the first pass.

We bought one as an additional tool for my parents' Hoover Ultra Self Propelled WindTunnel Upright (along with an extended-reach hose). It really is amazingly simple, yet performs with excellence. It is small enough to squeeze behind toilets in the bathroom, and paired with strong suction brings in the dirt from all directions!

Another great thing about this brush was that Hoover provided a storage slot for it right on the Dimension and Futura canisters! It's been rare to see a canister store a bare floor brush since the 1970's.... :-)

The Electrolux tool is good...I prefer Eureka or Royal...

One of the best is the old design of Kirby with the horse hair bristles...never liked Kenmore.

Air-Way with the felt pad will do the best job!

I tried to find the Lindhaus "bernoulli" tool on the web but didnt have any luck.... do you know were i can find one?

@Eurekaprince

Now that you mention it I had a Kenmore canister that had this tool and it did do a good job!I would need one for my Electrolux G though as it is our daily driver... and i usually just use the same tools when i decide to use something different... where would I find this adapter that you speak of?

Thanks for the input guys! I have got to get something fast!

Before the power nozzle became standard with the Filter Queen, the base tool set came with the standard rug nozzle and a clip on felt pad for vacuuming the floors. This worked very well and gave the floor a little shine at the same time. I don't know if this floor tool is an option with the current FQs.

I liked the bare floor tool on 1960s-early 80s Kenmore canisters. A single brush strip in the middle and the outer edge of the brush had a felt like material. Picked up both in forward and reverse as mentioned above. The later floor tool from the swivel hose canisters is similar but doesn't have the felt. This tool is what I use on my bare floors. The only problem is I think it should be wider, it's kind of small. It still comes with the basic canisters, and you can buy it separately at Sears along with an adapter to use on an upright vacuum wand.

Cody...

I will post the model number of the floor tool tomorrow when I have my Lindhaus Dealer book in front of me. 'Bernoulli' is a nickname given  by the sales force at Lindhaus. There are three tools, one stands upright and has a release. It will accept a felt pad. The second is a brush without the stand-up and release with bristles all around the perimeter with a felt pad included, and the third is simply a rug/floor tool with a squeegee blade. Numbers one and three are of the 'Bernoulli' design. It has to do with the equalization of pull across the width through the use of the air pressure disparity principles that allow heavier that air craft to fly.

I really like a bare floor tool that is open all the way across the front. On other tools, dog hair tends to get clogged up in the "vents" across the front. I then find myself having to remove the tool to clean the hair off in order to continue using it. With a tool that's completely open across the front, that problem is avoided. My least favorite tool is the Miele parquet tool. It has the castle cut all the way around and doesn't allow airflow to be concentrated.

Best floor tools

Compact/TriStar (older style & current style)
Aerus/Electrolux (esp. flip-over combo tool)
Wessel Werk (brushless; has rubber squeegee instead of bristles)
