Why thank you! And wow, thats really cheap! I paid $25 for mine with just the vinyl woven hose. The motors torn apart right now... I need to replace the bearing in it. You lucked out big time. I wish I had the storage cabinet with mine! Daniel :-) |

I've always liked the look of many of the Canadian models! But I suppose my favorite of the models I've owned is the Model L. The first one I ever owned was the brown L that was given to me in 1982 by my Grandmother. I'd just graduated from college and was setting up housekeeping for the first time. She bought it at a garage sale for $5 and it came complete with the power nozzle. I like them because they are simple, versatile, and straightforward. Plus, they are easy to work on.

I grew up with a Model XXX (which, sadly, I no longer have); I own an Epic 6500SR with a 2100 hose and PN-5 nozzle, and I would love to have a Diamond Jubilee or Marquise. All of these machines are my favorite American Electroluxes! |

I'm very fond of my 1205. It's a good vacuum, I love the color... blue is my favorite color. I don't have a PN-1, so I have been using a PN-5. I replaced the chewed-up hose with the new bojack hose with the PN switch under the handle grip. I'd like to get a mini nozzle for cleaning the furniture and maybe paint the PN to match the vacuum's color. By the way, what is the name of the 1205's color?

My favorite of course is the 1975 Electrolux Golden Jubilee with PN2 and the Golden Jubilee stickers on both the machine and PN. My Grandma bought it new in the spring of 76,,i just about died of anticipation to use it. Its still in good shape, and living in retirement in my collection,,,couldnt bare to part with it,,its like an old dear friend. I for one LOVE the gold color of the Golden J and Super J,,i think its Electrolux at its finest.

Amen Richard. CompactElectra, WOW,,that is awsome. your Super J is absolutely beautiful!
Everyone knows beauty is in the eye of the beyholder, but how anyone can say that a GoldenJ/Super J is ugly,,i just cant see it. I once got to see a brand spanking new 1205 out of the box, around 1973-74. A neighbor friend of my Aunt had just bought one. She knew i liked vacuums, and was visiting next door, so she called to say come over for coffee and check out my new Electrolux! The salesman had just left. He had left the Electrolux set up and plugged in, in the middle of her 1950s livingroom with sculptured gray carpet,,and evidently took the empty box with him. I went running over there,in post and in haste (about 10 yrs old) and ran strait into the livingroom. There it was its all its glory,,,a BRAND NEW NEVER USED fresh out of the box 1205 with blue hose plugged in, and its PN2 plugged into the top of the hose(on the back plug,,you could plug in either front or back on those hose plugs). Blue attachments, chromne wands, and the blue flip over floor brush,,still in a little box. I remember the orange lettering on the top of the blower door was BRIGHT,,like glow in the darkish. The chrome PN shined like a new mirror. And the brand new ELECTROLUX logo on the sides. OH my heart ached i wanted one so bad!,,,,or even to use this one for alittle while! I didnt touch it,,as the lady said not to,,,guess she was affraid i would ruin her new vacuum or something. And, Grandma had taught us, DONT TOUCH! Funny thing,,many many yrs later after that lady died, i just happend to see the stuff layed out for sale at the auction. There was the 1205,,,or at least A 1205,,i assumed it was the same one. Was all dirty, beat up and evidently rode hard and put away wet. No hose, The cord winder was shot, and the motor sounded tired. ( i plugged it in),And, the PN was locked up. I tried pushing it around with my finger. The PN brush roll was worn down to practically nothing, just a few short little tuffts of bristles left. Was kinda sad to see it that way. Evidently the old lady had really used it! |

Can't decide for sure what is my favorite Lux, but have narrowed it down to the XXX, Automatic E, or G. I have one of each and like all 3 for their power and looks. Also family connections--Mom had a XXX when I was growing up, until I used it for a trade-in on the 966 Electro-Hygiene I bought for her when I was selling them.
My paternal Grandparents had an Automatic E and a Filtex. When I was in jr. high school my Aunt & I would go to there house on Saturday or Sunday afternoons and she would do their laundry while I vacuumed, and I would always use the Lux. Didn't like the Filtex for some reason, which escapes me now. And my Uncle Red, who sold Electro-Hygienes before I was born, sold Electrolux in the mid 60's. When I was 9 years old we spent Christmas with them, and while we were there he did a demo of the Lux G. Jeff |

Fusion or epoxy based paint will work-they chemically bond to the plastic. I have no idea how you prepped the surface. Your "Titanic" reference is beneath me to comment. Nice try though....

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I have painted lots of plastic with very good results. First, I wash it in good ol' soap and water. Then, I wash it with methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). Then I spray the item with a sandless primer. I then spray on a couple of coats of SEM plastic/vinyl paint. Be sure to allow the first coat to dry! It's VERY durable and is used in the auto industry to spray out plastic and vinyl on cars. It can even be used on floor mats with very good results. Let it cure for several days and you'll have a very durable finish. I've used that process a number times when restoring vacuums and I've never had a problem with it.

If you dislike the floating rear wheels on a PN5 or PN6, there is a way to make those rear wheels stationary, like the Aerus-made TriStar MG powerheads are. There was a version of the PN6, called the PN6A, that has slots beside the rear wheels; this is because this is the commercial version of the PN6, & it did NOT have the floating rear wheels....rather, it used axles & had fixed wheels. The "shaft cover" for the rear wheels, which hides the floating assembly, also has two slots in it.
Here are the parts needed to convert a PN5 or PN6 into a PN6A with the fixed rear wheels: 45347: Rug Cleaner Body-PN1724. $43.99 45123: Rear Whl.Shaft Cover-Pow.Noz. $4.99 45125: Wheel Shaft-Pow.Noz. $2.99 For the wheel shaft, you need 2 of them....1 for each wheel. I recently ordered these parts to convert my PN5 & PN6, & noticed the PN digs into the carpet pile much better now. For anyone reading this & wanting to try this with a newer model Electrolux or Aerus-Electrolux, the PN1724 base with the slots has been used on the original Electrolux Guardian onwards; the present Aerus Lux Classic, Aerus Lux Legacy & Aerus Guardian Ultra all use the PN1724 base as well. All that would need to be ordered would be the "shaft cover" & 2 wheel shafts. If you're so inclined, try converting your PN5 over, & let me know what you think, Sandy. I'm sure you will notice a big difference if you do this & put the newer style brushroll in. Rob |

That comment you just made about Sandy "If only it was that easy; to waive your fairy wand and silence all that oppose you", was WAY OUT OF LINE!!
I personally may not agree with Sandy's opinions or comments on every topic, either....but I think Sandy makes a valuable contribution to this forum, & I value his right to have an opinion, & there are some things we DO agree on....such as YOU being quite rude, negative & confrontational yourself! Fred, I think it would only be appropriate to ask Kevin to make a public apology to Sandy in the Off-Topic Forum. These kind of comments & statements are improper & shouldn't be allowed on a forum such as this. Rob |

I cant decide, I even love my modern Velocity. They all have thier plusses but I think the ones that stand out the most are the 1400 series machines.
Remember them coming out and the hoo haa they caused. The Airstream I think, not because its TOL with bells and whistles but more because it looks smart, seems to use a quieter more gentle motor that just hums and the fact those blue airflow bags just seemed from a different world at the time. |

The hose on my G is an early model 1205 hose. It looks nice with my G and still holds full suction. The UltraLux was found at an Estate Sale in Kansas City. The UltraLux came with two hoses, two power nozzles and an Electrolux 1205 rug washer. I still consider this Electrolux to be one of my best Estate Sale finds. When I purchased the vacuum the cashier didn’t mark the ticket and one of the workers had to call cashier to confirm that I purchased the Electrolux vac. The estate sale guy thought I was trying to pull a fast one!

I also have a Model F with power nozzle. See link. The Model F is a very beautiful vacuum cleaner. Its understated gray and white color scheme made it stand out from all the garish machines on the market at the time. I recall many households with Model Fs when I was a boy. I can think of about a dozen right off the top of my head. And there was a church where my daddy was the pastor that had one. My mom borrowed it one day when her E-A was on the fritz [we lived across the street from the church] and I was very excited to see it in our house! Of course, she forbade me to "so much as lay a finger on it!" CLICK HERE TO GO TO Electrolux137's LINK |

had a soft spot for this one maybe because i grew up with it.I got this one recently from ebay the one i grew up with belonged to my grandma she only ever had two vacuums in all of her married life aZ55 and this one whenever i look at it i see her vacuuming a yellow carpet with lots of roses on it she only ever used the upholstery tool none of the others it got so much use that the corners of the upholstery tool were worn away another thing about this machine is its so quiet theres hardly any motor noise just the sound of the air rushing through it

My 1205 is my first Electrolux and it's the vacuum I've had the longest of any I presently own. Now that I've upgraded the hose and replaced the brush roll on the PN-1, it's a real performer. I definitely count myself as part of the 'teal is cool' camp; in fact, when I think Electrolux, I automatically think teal. Aesthetically speaking, I like the 1205's smooth metal sides, although looking at my Super J, I understand the wisdom of the textured metal as it hides a world of sins.
Speaking of my Super J, there's a lot to like about it as well, especially, I the sleeker design of the handle and control panel and of course the more powerful motor. I still find the gold color scheme a bit much, although it really is growing on me. I've learned to think of it as 'cheerful' instead of 'gaudy'. The vacuuming experience with the Super J is also much improved since I acquired a PN-2 to go with it. The funny thing is I have yet to try the PN-2 with my 1205. Maybe I'll do that the next time I vacuum. |

Guess I might as well weigh in on this too. I have several favorites. My Favorite Canadian Electrolux is the late Model 88. My favorite US model would be a toss up between the Blue Model G and the Silverado and my favorite English model is the Model 90 with the Trident running a close second.

These are some picutres of my Electrolux vacuums. Have always loved the style and suction of the units. I love my AP100 in the foot stool storage box |

I would have to say My Olympia One and 1205 are my favorites, mostly for sentimental reasons. My Olympia was bought at a flea market in Bloomington, IL. I went there with my best friend, and stayed the weekend with his brother, and it was the first Lux I had ever bought. My babysitter had a 1205 and she would let me vacuum with it, even if she had already vacuumed she would let me use it. I also love the color of the 1205.

Epic 6000SR, 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee, 75th Anniversary Ambassador & 1205 Goldis & Ambassador are the ones I use the most; but the Epic 6000SR makes a huge racket |

One of my all time favorite models of Electrolux is the model 61 (LXI). Electrolux only made that model for a very short time (about 9 months), it is one of only two models of vacuum cleaner that were on both wheels AND runners at the same time (the other was Air-Way in the 1970's). The model 61 had the new "swing away" cord rewinder, and featured a metal "knob" for the control of the automatic functions. I love this machine for many reasons, not the least of which is the quiet operation, long hose, and excellent quality attachments.

I guess since I only have 1 (1945 model XXX), it's my favorite!
Truth be told, I'd really love to find a model V, as well as one of the British ones covered in tartan (not sure what model that is), but I do love my XXX to bits.

I've only ever used one; my 2100. The Sidekick was unfortunately lost long ago, I might bite the bullet and get another one from eBay.

Such a long time since my initial post in this thread four and a half years ago. At the time I just had two machines to choose from in the Electrolux line. Now, in addition to the 1205 and the Super J, I've acquired a Diamond J, rescued another 1205, resurrected a Silverado, and that's not to mention the uprights—a Discovery Plus, Discovery II and Genesis LXe. While I will always love the canisters, especially the 1205s, I've really come to appreciate the Discovery II, especially since I retrofitted it with a Sidekick adapter. It's as convenient as it is versatile. My housekeeper loves it too and she can't believe it's almost 35 years old.

Great thread. Great pictures.
I honestly couldn't pick one favorite. I love them all! But, I've only owned plastic bodied models. My grandmother had a metal one, I believe with runners, but I never got to know that one. The first one I had any experience with was when my mom bought her first one; probably in the 1980s. I don't remember the model, but it was in the plastic era. She's owned one ever since. My first was an Epic 6500 SR. I now have three different versions of that model, plus one Aerus Legacy version. I also have one Ambassador III. I love their looks, they perform great, I like the on-board tools. I split the daily driver duties between them. Barry |

1205 because of family memories (my parents bought new) & I've came across a few more 1205s
Epic 6000 the best of both worlds because it combines the lightweight plastic canister & metal wands. Also the LONG crevice tool stores onboard unlike the Ambassador, LE & 2100 which stores the combo tool & SHORT crevice tool Ambassador, Diplomat & 2100--Same reasons as the Epic 6000 Epic 6500SR Same as the Epic 6000; but I didn't like the quick-connect plastic wands because the wands & hose handle are too bulky, so I changed the hose, wands & tools to the old style pistol grip hose handle & metal wands Bronze/Tan Model G because of its retro look XXX was a disaster because the cord 'fried up' due to age & low suction even with a genuine coiled vinyl Electrolux hose Most of the Electroluxes I've owned are complete except the Ambassador I once owned & the 2100 (came only with a genuine Lux coiled vinyl electrified hose, short crevice tool & SideKick 1; & I'm waiting to see if I'll win the PN, combo dusting/upholstery tool, floor brush & wands from eBay) My recently acquired 2100 starts & stops intermittent but the SideKick works great. Its a recent garage sale find (pre-COVID-19 crisis) it came with a full bag & Sidekick had hair wrapped around the brushroll The other 2100 I had had a leaky woven vinyl hose with cracked pistol grip, PN & PN wands & sheath & combo dusting brush/upholstery tool but I managed to find two aluminum wands, a genuine Electrolux combo rug/floor tool, genuine Electrolux coiled vinyl hose & crevice tool to complete the set Diplomat had only a woven cloth hose like the 1st 2100 I had but no other tools or wands I still have two 1205s & a 2100; & waiting to receive the Olympia & a Ultralux 80th Anniversary (Olympia & Ultralux main units only) I sold the rest of my Lux collection over the last few yrs; but slowly 'rebuilding' my Electrolux collection again |

My favorite Electrolux would have to be my all original Model 89. Not only is it in all green, which is my favorite color, but it was a gift from one of our members here, Mr. Doug Smith, at my first mini meet. The picture of myself with it is from the mini meet, but the 89 still looks incredible and will forever be a treasured piece in my collection. Enjoy!
