I just finished my first rebuild of a plastic body lux today. It was one of the Special Edition models, and needed a simple cord winder repair(simple spring jam) and cleaning of the motor area.

As a person that is critical of my own work, I am wondering if there is anything I should check for or be sure to do when working on this cleaner. I intend to sell the machine so it won't have the hours of testing that most vacuums in my collection get, and I always seem to hold machines I sell to a higher standard of performance, quality and safety than my own cleaners. I just want to make sure it's as near perfect as possible for it's new owner.

2100

I have a 2100. I bought it at the thrift store for $13. I mostly wanted the power nozzle. The hose is the junky woven type and leaks like a sive. But at the machine it has tons of suction! Way more than any of my metal bodied machines.
I have noticed that the power nozzle goes on and off if you wiggle the hose at the machine end. Not sure if it is the tank or the hose. One of these days I'll get around to getting a new one for it.

So, I thought I should post a picture and give an update to make this thread a little less boring. I have gone over the cleaner about 10 times (literaly) making sure that all of the electrical stuff is in its proper place. It's just one of those things I worry about a lot so it got checked and rechecked. I finnaly got it listed on ebay today. The link is below.

Erick, it looks like you did a fantastic job on that machine. Good luck!!

Thank you very much! It took a fair amount of work to get it to look like that. I have plenty of work to do aside from that machine. The picture below gives you some idea. For each of those power nozzles there is a vacuum that needs restoration and will be sold. The Orecks are also going to be sold. I think what I am doing is a fun way to get money to expand my collection and pay for other things. I get to experience many different vacuums and still make a profit.

The next thing I will be doing is selling a Silverado Deluxe and putting and Epic 6500 motor in that Diamond J. The grey Oreck will most likly be sold in the next week or so.

I have that same diamond j. love it. Do you have any old braided hoses to fit these you would sell, or any non-electric vinyl hoses?

Vac hoses

I'll give you a little preview of what I have. I will go through some of them tonight but I think I have 3 Diamond J hoses. None of them are in all that great condition and some are quite poor. If anyone else wants any of these let me know. I can have a full list of inventory in a couple hours. Prices will be fairly low as these have no real use to me.

Ok. Here is the list.

3 Diamond J Hoses
2 Marquise Hoses (Tan)
2 Silverado Hoses
1 Golden J Hose
1 Grand Marquise / Legacy / Ultralux Hose
1 Plastic (not woven) Special Edition Hose (Has Rip Near Machine End)

All of these hoses have flaws and some are better than others. They might be of use in a display if you don't have a certain hose yet. You could then upgrade when you find a nicer one. Close up pictures can be taken of any hoses that you are interested in.

hoses

Sounds good. I would like to see what an original Diamond J hose looked like and a Super J/Golden J hose as all of mine have vinyl replacements. I think that the braided hoses made the canister of a Lux manuever much better than vinyl ones.

A Diamond J is white with dark green and looks like this:

And this hose came from a Golden J. It is white with turquoise and gold stripes. I have also seen them with a gold base color and turquoise(?) stripes.

Thanks

Are both of the hoses in decent shape?
If so, are you interested in making a deal?

About the hoses: I'll contact you privatly.

About kirby bags: A bag in one of my pictures does look like a Classic 3 bag but it is really an aftermarket conversion to use Eureka F&G bags. It generaly looks ugly and odd when in use. What you need is more like what is in the link below.
