HERE IS A THREAD TO DISCUSS KIRBY PRODECTS AND VACUUMS FROM 1980 AND OLDER

Post# 176956 , Reply# 1   4/12/2012 at 22:12 (4,386 days old) by IL-Kirby-Fan ()

I just purchased a Kirby DS80 yesterday...vacuum, full attachment and shampooer sets too. I am going to rebuild and recondition it. I got all the new trim pieces, wheels, etc. I just need a green cord and bag for it. Need to look online for them. I called Kirby today when I was gonna put in an order at work, but unfortunately they don't have the original colors anymore. They are trimming older models out in black now. I'll post pics once I take some.

Yes, its going to get harder and harder now to find exact match colors for the older (Classic style and older) Kirby's. Many of the older attachments have now been totally discontinued by the factory, even the black ones, such as the long strait wand, curved wand, large floor nozzle, and swivel tube. Also the floor buffer pads for all the older machines, and the fumigator/Crystalator/air intake nozzle is discontinued, along with the small handles to convert the Kirby to hand held or over the shoulder use. The shoulder strap is also long gone.
(has anyone actually ever used those? I did a few times but it was weird)
Rug Renovator and Miracle Heads for the older Kirbys are discontinued with all of their parts.
Of course the Handi Butlers are long gone, with all of their parts, and also the Turbo Clipper (Heritage 1) is long gone.

All colors except black of the Bag Guard (that goes around the base of the bag on the Sani/Mini Emptor) is discontinued along with all power cord colors except black.
All hose colors except black are discontinued.
All hoses now have a the black Heritage 2 style flat cone nozzle end.
Any older style attachments that are still being manufactured are now black.
Any older style dump bags are all heavy black courd. type material.

I did send in a Tradition for a Factory Rebuild a couple of yrs ago, and it came back ALL blue, even the cord,(but not the bottom cover of the Sani Emptor, it was black),,,but now sure now if that would be the case or not.

Im assuming the Factory has used up all of the older colored pieces they had left, and everything is going out black except trim color and handles, ect.
Now watch the trim and all the handles and whatever else that was color specific be all black on Factory Rebuilds and avalible parts too.

Any Kirby collector that hasnt done so would be smart to grab an extra set of color matching attchments and hoses, ect for their older machines now while the gettin is good!

I found you a site that has the colors to match your d-80. Go to goodvac.com, they have the original colors for the bag and the cord. It's the only place I know of to get them. I hope I helped!

Thank you for the website, I've order from them before but their parts while pictured in color come in black as well.

I talked to Sharon at Kirby yesterday and she was saying that the rebuild center in Germany is almost out of color parts too. All old models will be in black until that runs out...after that there is talk that they may just start replacing machines with whatever the new model is at the time.

I have a few contacts that are long time Kirby service centers that I can usually find the old stuff but that's starting to dwindle now too...I've gone through that inventory, lol. Oh well.

The town I live in is VERY heavy with D80's and Classic III's, the salesmen during those times made a killing there...so if I watch yardsales over the summer I can usually come up with a lot.

Good idea! Yard sales, Estate Sales, ect are an excellent way to get the items that may be discontinued. Ive noticed most older Kirby attachments were never used, except maybe a select few, like the Crevice tool, or dusting brush.
Ive never seen a worn out (from use) Crystalator!

I should have added to my above post that i was base-ing that info on the last few Factory Rebuilds ive had done.
Along with the sent paperwork from the Factory they stated that the above mentioned items would no longer be replaced, as part of the Factory Rebuild (where they had been previously evidently) so i assumed that they were just discontinued by the factory.
Evidently some attachments and parts ARE still avalible from the factory,(if you want to buy them outright) but just no longer part of the Factory Rebuiling and replacing of old or worn out parts agreement. Sorry for the confusion.

Mr. Mattingly...aren't you the current President of Kirby? Couldn't you just have your factory make them in color again?

I just can't imagine some of my favorite models done in black rather than their original colors. That would be so strange.
