OK, I couldn't stand leaving it behind at the thrift store. I am not supposed to be buying ANYTHING since we are trying to sell our house and move BUT I just couldn't leave this one there to be snatched up and ruined.

I need to know what to use to clean up the scuffs on the plastic top and on the metal body. It is amazing clean on the underside. Works like a champ after I replaced the bag and belt. Came with 3 new packages of extra bags too.

I think I will keep it awhile and then sell it. It's always good to have an extra vac around!

Congrats on the "new" Hoover Convertible. Those are some of the best machines that ever came off of the line. You gotta love the color combo. The production dates are 1971-1972. The colors are taupe (base) and camellia (hood). It is rare to find one of these in this exceptional condition. Thanks for posting the photos! Happy Hoovering!

As for the scuffs on the plastic top, use Brasso. It is easy to use, cheap, and it does not stink to high heaven. You can even use it on the metal body. On the metal, you can even use Goof Off which is also good for the bumper. You will not have to work hard to make this one mint!

Thanks!

Thanks for the info on cleaning it. Where is Brasso located at the grocery store, or do I find it at Home Depot or Lowe's?

Plus, it must have been meant to be that I found it as it was built around 72 and I was born in 72! LOL

Heather, you'll want to keep that. At todays soaring Ebay prices it just may pay for your kids college tuition 12 odd years from now.
It's very nice.

Thanks to Jeff....

Also, thanks to Jeff for telling me that it was indeed something I should pick up. Although I couldn't remember the model number and he was able to tell me the model number from my crappy description of it. :-)

RE: Ebay prices

You know, it seems like you never know what will do well and what will tank anymore. I also don't understand when one item sells for $$$ and there is another just like it selling for nothing. Do you sell your extra finds that your hubby/partner (I can' recall his name, sorry) wants you to get rid of? :-)

I did pick up a couple other things to sell on eBay today though. A NIB 80's Clairol True to Light Mirror for $3.50 and a NIB vintage Salton Mini Hot Plate for $2.25.

I just have serious issues that I cannot leave things at the thrift store that I know that someone else might want. Needless to say I am an eBay Power Seller and have 5500+ feedback and almost 6500 transactions. Mostly kids clothes (90%) but on occassion other stuff I have gotten lucky with.

I don't sell much on Ebay actually I've only sold about 20-25 items so far and bought some as well. But I've done well on what I did sell. I also tend to pick up stuff at the thrifts figuring somebody on here or the other site may want it or need a part. Trouble is my basements loooking like a Thrift store LOL

Heather, are you in touch with a certified Hoover Guru to help you make the most of this Convertible?

That cleaner is in marvelous condition. With a little work, this machine could easily function as an everyday cleaner. Let us know if you want more detailed help/advice!

Congratulations

What a find! And, it's in mint condition. Congratulations. I love that color combination and the bag is too cool. It's almost a piece of art.

YAY!!

good for you Heather, that is one sweet looking model "736"

If you ever get over my way I'd be happy to check it over for you, I doubt it needs much as it looks nearly new!

Jeff

I can get it to you in Joliet easier than Roselle at this point.

We have been wanting to go to dinner at a resturant in Crestwood (WOW Wingery & Cafe-my son's favorite place to eat). This would make even more of a reason to go down that way! :-)

JLMK if you are going to be down there during the next few weeks and I can bring it by. Otherwise, I may try to get up your way for some back to school shopping for my daughter.

Thanks

Heather

Heather, this is one of the cleaners Hoover had fun with, design-wise. I have one too and have always liked the colors and bag design!

Joliet

Heather,
Joliet would be fine too if its easier, and Michael's house is pretty easy to find. He lives in the Cathedral area, about a 10 minute or so walk due west of Harrah's Casino. I'm there usually every friday night(Michael's, not the casino) and Michael is in Roselle on Saturday nights.
Let me know when you'll be in the area and we'll work something out...

Next Friday

I am thinking next Friday will be good. My family & I can go to dinner and then come over to Michael's house after-since it will take awhile for you to get there from Roselle! :-)

Or, we could do it Sat morning/afternoon beofre you guys head up to Roselle. It's totally up to you. I am open for anything. It won't take long, I am sure. It's pretty clean.

Just e-mail me direct and you can tell me what works for you.

Sounds good

I'm usually here(Michael's) by 7pm, depends on traffic. We usually go someplace for dinner(Merichka's in Crest Hill is my FAVE!) and we are home after that.
I usually head back for Roselle after lunch on Saturday.
I'll email you when I get back to Roselle on Sunday. Michael is playing in a pit band for a musical this weekend, so its me & the dogs tonight by ourselves.
