The only black bags available new are what Kirby offer, though I don't know their thickness as they seem to vary between different bags...

I think these days, the only Grey bag Kirby wants you to buy is the one that comes with a Sentria attached, hence why they decided to create that generic black bag for the vintage machines... :\

Bags are thin?

Kendall,

I know exactly what you mean by thin. The bags feel thin when they are new because they are not laden with dirt yet. Once they are used for a while you will notice that the "thinness" will disappear. You will also notice that the new bag will not appear to inflate all the way hard. That's because it is very porous and offers a lot of air-flow. You will be able to squeeze it very easily and it will not feel hard but rather soft and supple to the touch.

Have you thought about buying a Classic III bag, they are rather thick AND the red would look good on your 513 if it is already trimmed in red.
Just a thought.

I've got a modern CIII bag and an original(ish) CIII bag, and the difference in thickness is pretty obvious, the modern one is the same material as they used on the Heritage to G4 bags originally (after that they used the inner lining material for replacement bags for the CIII and Tradition), but the original one is like it's made from a wool blanket, and is heavy...

Still, modern shakeout bags are made from better materials, which are able to filter better and hold more dirt in, though you shouldn't use them if you or anyone in your family suffers with breathing problems, I don't, but I always sneeze when using my Kirbys with their shakeout bags... :S
