I am truly considering using an FJM bag in my Miele S5's. I have 3 of them and the bags all seem to stay folded for the most part. The fittings of the FJM bag and the GN bags are exactly the same, except for the color.

What problems if any would I experience if I did this? I don't have pets, and have many vacuums to rotate, so I always change the bags before they are full.

I would think the airflow would be greater with the smaller bag since it would have room in an S5 to inflate.....

I know Miele made this bag to be almost indestructable, but I thought their intensive clean bags were just fine. I never had dust in the bag compartment, the only thing I didn't like were the two tabs you had to pull up on to change the bag, the new style rounded tab is much better.

Sincerely,

Bud

I had a few leftover FJM bags from a previous Miele cleaner that fit and worked just fine in my new machine that calls for the GN bag. Additionally, I used a couple of GN bags in the old unit and they too worked perfectly.

Now with all that said, our household deals mainly with dust bunnies, hair & crumbs on hardwood floors. Perhaps if you've got heavy dirt I.E. sand, pebbles etc., I have to wonder if the weight could dislodge the bag inlet seal creating a leak.

Are the plastic cartridges on both bags the same size? Take a ruler and check. Even if the smaller FJM bag slides in with ease, as Leslie points out, there could well be a bag leakage if the smaller FJM bag gets overloaded.

I inadvertently bought GN bags for my S316i, which is meant to take the FJMs, but the GNs fitted fine, and they have a bigger surface area to filter through, so help to improve cleaning performance, I just wish I could say the same about the pre and post filters, but that's why I have a Tristar... :)

Thanks,

Next time I am out I will buy a box and try them on one of my S5's. Thanks everyone for your input.
